Enron: The smartest guys in the room (movie review)
60o
so i was fortunate enough to see this movie today about Enron. If youre like me, back in '02 you got the gist of what happened. Big Texas company did some messed up shit and basically bent there employees and stock holders over the ol desk and gave them a pretty good jossling. there were a couple of names i recognized like ken lay the chairman founder and ceo, and also the president guy...i forgot his name already. anyhoo..i never really understood it until now. i never really wanted to i guess.
the movie is a basic documentary of the rise and fall of Enron. To put it ina nutshell....Kenneth Lay founded the company back in the 80's...hired some pretty smart and innovative deck hands which grew the company into the "new wave" of thinking for natural gas trading. they had shady deals with many well known companies like blockbuster, portland general, and mostly every major bank in the world...the five families of banks if you will...citibank jpmorgan..to name a couple. basically said they had all this money they never had...they pumped and dumped there stock, cooked there books and eventually got caught. when there president resigns like 2 weeks before they go under....it was done. so thats the basic story of Enron...there is a lot more to it...but def check out the movie.
With some of us now getting up there in the ranks at our respective jobs...it is very interesting to see what exactly happened at enron. this movie will shed some light on this subject. easy to follow and there actually was some sort of action sequences to it as well. there is a great part in the movie that kinda showed the darker side of high level executives and what they do in there spare time. Jeff Skilling would take some other high levels and some top clients on random motor cross vacations..it showed them all in there little racing uni's with thses minor cuts and bruises...tearing up the race track. at one point someone quoted skilling saying that Jeff "like the guys with the spikes" or something like that...anyhoo..referring to guys who had a dangerous side, sort cowboy mentality. at the job and off...the other funny part was when they showed Skillings transformation from this nerdy geek type to this GQ executiove after he was having tremendous success at Enron. soem othjer great things...one employee Lu Pi this asian dude...was like the only guy to get away...with a shit ton of money too. this guy was hil;arious. see the movieand you will know what im talking avout.
all in all i def think this movie is worth the roughly 1 hour and 45 mins running time. it clears up many answers so now i can maybe have a conversation about this matter and make it seem like ive known about enron for years now! "Enron!!>?? please...i mean sooner or later we all haveot know about this subject it was the biggest busienss scandal in our history...look im already doing it! hahah
bottomline: i give this movie the two finger salute. they are the middle fingers and it means it was good! iam no longer a complete moron on this subject
