Sonamarg  the heaven on earth.

         Sonamarg is a famous tourist place situated at an altitude of 4500 mts above msl and 80 Kms from Srinagar city  of jammu and Kashmir state of India. The route to sonamarg starts  from  the famous Dal Lake Srinagar and in the way it touches the Historic Hazratbal Shrine ”Dargah”  at Hazratbal. Also the grave yard of  late Sheikh Abdullah  Leader and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir state lies here  on the banks of Dal Lake.  At 23^rd Km the famous temple of kheer bhawani falls to the left side projection of the main route to sonamarg 4 kms from Ganderbal chowk. At 30 Kms mark is the Manigam Village the Home of Godess Roop Bhawani, whwere the Goddess meditatetd for 12½  years.  Kashkak the saint also belong to the Manigam Village.At Kangan there is a hydal power station located on the route to sonamarg. Kangan is the main market for the adjoining areas and has a very big catchment area to feed. Other notable villages which come across the road are Ganiwan , Gaund, Sumbal villages. At last when the road is about to touch the main Sonamarg market there is a world famous Glacier scenery on 3 Kms right side of the road called Thajwas. It is a motorable road, though pony ride adds a charm in the visit. Thousand of pony men along with their horses are camping there along with raft holders which give skating rides to the tourists. Thajwas a little valley lies in the lap of the surrounded green mountains whose feet are covered with the snow. Nature is at its best mood in this are of sonamarg. One can feel himself on top of the world. All along the route from Manigam flows the Nallah Sindh the hybrid of Amravati nallah that flows from Holy Amaranth Cave and sind nadi that flows from tibat vally.The parallel run of Sindh Nallaha adds a feather in the cap. At sonamarg one can see the world famous glaciers which one cannot find any where in the India. This route passes through different tough terrains before it reaches the Ladakh through Kargil.the type of vegetation you can find in the sonamarg is kail, Deodar and even Birch. The Average yearly snow fall at Sonamarg is about 40 feet.

Snow starts falling here in the month of late October up to even month of May, and it starts melting from the month of April every year.

                   The world famous pilgrimage of wholly Amarnath Cave is just 13 Kms from Sonamarg. Every year thousands of pilgrims/ tourists visit this holly place.
