Entrepreneurial Information Reality 1: Today we live in the age of "Please Don't Bore Me With Your Business"
Your business has to stand for something with sizzle and pizzazz. Today's consumer is looking for an entrepreneur that has the guts to create a business or service offering that has a little meat on the bone. Thus, your new business offering can't look, smell, or taste exactly like something else out there.
This is not to say that you have to go all out toward left field and creating some type of weird-business-of-the-hour. It just means that you should put a little twist on something that's become old and contrary.
Today's customers want a business that gives them something to talk about.
To be a success in business, you've got to give your customer-base something that makes them step back and notice.
You've got to give them something that gives them a sense of, "Ahh...Now here's a business that REALLY gets me. They found some kind of way to give me a sense of relief, a sense of peace, and a sense that, 'Hmmmm...they're really on to something.'
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 2: There's power in catering your business offering to a niche of people that are craving THAT thing that you bring to the t
To be a successful entrepreneur today, you've got to be aware of the profound shift in business success.
Those businesses that succeed today succeed because they focus their business or service offering on catering to a specific niche of customers that will go absolutely crazy about what they do.
Successful entrepreneurs intentionally design their business to make the lives of their targeted customer base more vibrant and less stressful by creating products and services that are intentionally designed:
(a) to make their targeted customer feel better,
(b) help their targeted customer solve a very frustrating problem, or...
(c) both.
Don't Bore Them...Instead, Razzle-Dazzle Them With Your Offering
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 3: Risk and uncertainty are a part of the entrepreneurial package.
One of the most startling things I've found when talking to people who want to make their start-up business ideas work is the fact that they are looking for some sort of success guarantee.
There is none.
There is no guarantee that if you push your small business ideas into existence, that they will work.
In fact, savvy entrepreneurs embrace this truth: risk and uncertainty are simply a fact of life that you have to deal with when designing your business for success.
Successful entrepreneurs embrace risk and uncertainty, and then diligently design their business from a "what can go wrong" aspect.
They look at all the factors that could potentially work against their business, then piece-by-piece, they design their business to hedge against all those things that could possibly go wrong.
You may be asking yourself whether this "design your business for what can go wrong" move actually gives them a guarantee of success, and the answer is "No." it doesn't give them a 100% guarantee of success.
It does, however, give you strategic insight on what you need to do to design your business to mitigate risk.
Whatever You Do...Just Know That Your Competitors Are Keeping Their Eye On You.
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 4: Successful entrepreneurs understand that there they will always have competitors.
One of the most tragic mistakes that new business owners make is when they think their starting a new business that has no competition.
Competition is defined as any entity that could steal the sale away from you. Let's pretend you decide to start a spa. And there is no other spa quite like yours within 100 miles of you.
So, erroneously you might start to think, "Hmmm...I have no competition."
WRONG.
Your competition could be the fact they choose not to even notice your business because they get all of their spa relaxation needs serviced by buying home-spa products from their local mall or retailer.
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 5: Successful entrepreneurs bring their small business ideas to life by combining their passion with perseverance.
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 6: Successful entrepreneurs recognize the competitive power of customer focus.
Successful entrepreneurs design their business with the intent to give their customer something that their competitors DON'T.
I once heard of a really savvy entrepreneur who wanted to create a new spa in town. He had to face competition from many well-known, already established spas.
He also recognized that his competition extended far beyond the local spas. He knew that his local mall and local Target snapped up some of his targeted sales.
So he did what many successful entrepreneurs do: he focused on creating an experience that his customers could only get from him. He created a new type of spa offering and it became an instant hit!
He began obsessively looking for a niche he could serve.
He bumped into a professional friend of his who often complained about how much she needed to relax, but just didn't have the time for it.
He asked her why she didn't just treat herself to one of the more renowned spas in-town.
She told him that with juggling the time between work and a growing family, she didn't have the time, or the money, to spend on going to one of those local spas.
"Besides," she told him, "The only time I really have to myself is my lunch time...how I wish I could find a way to use my lunch time to relax every now and then."
Her reply left him curiously stunned...and became the basis of his business
Tony is now the owner of one of the hottest spas in town. He created a lunch-based spa business located adjacent to several downtown office buildings. His patrons gladly pay him $10 for a 10-minute relaxation experience and massage.
His waiting list is building up...and his business is more profitable than he ever imagined it to be!
And to think...his entrepreneurial success is due to creating a business that was designed around the reality of his customer base.
Entrepreneurial Information Reality 7: Successful entrepreneurs recognize that the only true way to win is to create a business that their customers will crave
They find a customer-focused and innovative way to wrap their SweetSpot - THAT thing that they were made to do and to be - into a business that their customers find irresistible.
They also design businesses that are ground in sound strategy. They view their business as a system that has many parts, interactions, processes, and policies that all add to (or subtract from) creating an exhilarating experience for their customer base.

Good tips for starting enterprenuers.
Great Hub! I love that you included the fact that risk and uncertainty are part of the package - this is so true! If you want to achieve benefits that are beyond what you can achieve through a "safe" 9-5, then you've got to take those risks!!
That's right Christine...I think all too often too many people think that they will get a business up and running...totally risk free...And then, when they hit all of the walls of uncertainty that come with entrepreneurship, they feel like closing up shop and calling it a day.
True entrepreneurship is about staying in it over the long haul, and keeping your business moving regardless of all of the ever-present risk and uncertaintly.
I really found great insightful value in these 7 brief nuggets of entrepreneurial gold. They are simple yet so true. Entrepreneurs are one-of-a-kind breed of independent self-reliant people yet need to work with others to achieve their dreams.
