Fulfillment

Every one of us is in pursuit, successfully or unsuccessfully, of fulfillment or as Maslow put it, self-actualization. We search high and low for casues, products and motivators that will produce within us the highest, most consistent amount of happiness possible. All too often though our limited perspective, our short-sightedness, prevents us from realizing that pursuit and we get distracted by vain ambitions.

Think about the greatest men and women that have lived. Abraham Lincoln, The Founding Fathers, Plato, Winston Churchill, Martin Luther, confucious, Jesus Christ, Muhammed, Joan of Ark, Florence Nightingale and on and on. All these people did widely differing things with their lives but they all had one thing in common. They all created something valuable, something that people believed, something that moved people to act.

It is this level of livlihood that we all seek many times in vain. To be fulfilled and happy we must create.

Entrepreneurship on the surface looks shallow, merely a construct of a capitalist society driven by greed and materialism. However looking deeper we find it an expression of our most basic desire to find fulfillment and happiness. From Bill gates and Microsoft to the local flower shop down the street all entrepreneurs have one common trait: they create.

Of course the success of businesses vary widely, a majority failing and falling into bankruptcy. The success and staying power of an entrepreneurial endeavor can be determined by the motivation of the entrepreneur. The more focused he is on creating something worthwhile the more successful he will be and the longer that business will stick around.

Many will never take root, being devoured by the fowl of the air. Their product Isn't valuable enough to create a profit. their efforts have been lackluster and they have deceived themselves with false hopes of huge amounts of wealth and prosperity when in fact the business would never even see the light of day. They stay a slave to their employer and keep searching for that transcending fulfillment that comes from creation.

Others fall among the rocks spring up only to wither and die for want of water. They fallow fads of the day, make a quick buck and die. These are the scammers, fraudulent and full of lies who see outward success but fail inwardly to satisfy their need for self-actualization.

Sadder yet are those who have a business that begins to grow strong and steady but is choked by the thorns of distraction. Opportunity after opportunity pulls their attention away when they experience a slight set-back or growth that isnt fast enough for their demands. They had such promise.

Last is that entrepreneur who plants his business in fresh soil, soil that has been tried, tested and proven to produce fruitful plants. He takes care to prepare the soil doing thorough market research, discovering what his market wants so he can produce a quality product that people want and need. His plant grows slowly, consistently and produces the juiciest of fruits. His cutomers praise his work and ask for more. He gladly serves them and they respect him with their patronage.

Create. That is the way to long lasting prosperity and fulfillment because it is so thoroughly a part of what it means to be human.
