A lot of people do not fully maximize the use of their home’s (or office’s) entryways. Very often, this space is left bare. Occasionally, you will find an umbrella stand there or even a small foyer table. However, if you would rather have more than just one singular table or a stand to park your umbrellas, you might want to set your sights on getting an entryway bench. So what exactly is an entryway bench? This is a type of furniture that serves two main purposes: it can be used as seating furniture and a piece of storage place where you can keep items you would normally use as you head on out of the door. As the name suggests, this piece is usually constructed with a lean structure so as not to hinder normal entryway movement. In some cases too, a furniture piece like this can provide you a place to hang up your coats, jackets and hats.

There are many kinds of entryway benches to choose from, and because prices for this product are usually reasonable, you can pick and choose from the lot without worries. The question now is: how do you choose an entry bench to suit your home or office?

The first thing you have to do is to measure your entryway. As stated above, the best kind of entryway storage benches are the ones that does not hinder foot traffic in the aforementioned area. You want something serviceable, and not a piece of furniture you keep banging into as you go in or out of the door. If you have a rather expansive entryway, any sized furniture piece may suffice. However, if you have a rather limited space, you may want to choose a storage bench that is about 1 to 1½ foot wide only. Anything wider is bound to be more of a problem than it is really worth. The last thing you would want is a piece of furniture that can scrape and bump your shins every time you are near the door.

The length of the bench depends on how much available wall space you have. A small bench that is comfortable enough to seat two people is the norm. But if you have room to spare, then you might also want to look into longer benches that can seat 3 or 4 people all at once. Having longer benches usually mean getting more storage space; but that is not always true with some of the more modern designs; (a fact which we will tackle later on.)

Height is also a factor. Some of the entryway bench models have built-in back walls where small cupboard-like cabinets are mounted at the very top. However, there are also models wherein these cupboard-like cabinets, or wall cubbies as they are called, are separately installed. The latter one is more convenient for entryways with low, irregular or slanting ceilings. There are also entryway bench models that do not have any back walls, or mounted cup-board like cabinets or accompanying wall cubbies. Rather, these benches have storage areas right under the seats with tall side frames where hooks (for coats and hats) are attached.

If you are particularly concerned with storage space and you want to gain the most out of a double-seater entryway storage bench, you do not have to buy the biggest or longest entryway furniture you can find. There are several furniture models that you can use that have enough compact storage space to meet your demands. Try to look for an entryway bench with baskets, the ones with box bases or those with storage seats, accompanying wall cubbies or attached cup-board like cabinets, and matching wall hooks.

There are also some models that allow you to buy additional wall cubbies too. However, to eliminate the possibility of going overboard with your purchases, try to make sure that the wall cubbies can be installed while still providing enough head space to any person who might be sitting on the entryway bench. You might also want to focus your attention on storage space doors or lids. Some cabinets have doors you can pull open, which may be good if you have a lot of entryway space to move about. But sliding doors or panels may be better options when it comes to very limited spaces.

There are also bench seats that act as lids for the box storage underneath. Another one is the entryway bench shelf and ofcourse the entryway shoe bench for all your shoes. Women could have a lot of shoes and it is very comfortable to have a entryway shoe storage bench so everything is organized. I have bought just recently a black entryway bench with storage for shoes for my wife, she was thrilled. I was happy to not fall over the shoes of my wife anymore, we both win!
