Envirocycle Composter
55Introducing the Envirocycle Composter
You do not need an Envirocycle Composter, but there are times and places where they really do suit the job at hand. Read on to find out why I am such a fan of this curvy garden composter.
Garden Composting is extremely worthwhile. You really cannot get better fertilizer for your garden than homemade garden compost. Because we put so much variety into our compost bins, the end result is full of all the nutrients our plants need. One thing, I am particularly fond of is free stuff, and you really don't get more free than your own garden compost.
Avoiding sending so much waste to landfill is also pretty virtuous, particularly when most of the food-waste sent there gets buried under too much to break down safely, and instead adds to the problem of Greenhouse Gases.
Now, to make perfectly fabulous organic garden compost you don't need anything. But, let's get realistic, whilst a huge pile of decomposing garden waste is fine if you're living the 'Good Life' with plenty of open space around, it just doesn't feel so great in an urban backyard, or indeed in a small rural backyard.
If you do not have the space to hide a compost bin or heap, it needs to be bought or made with a little more care and attention. It's not just whether you think your garden composter is pretty either. You want to choose a compost bin which will create usable compost quickly, and without attracting vermin, pets or children to investigate the latest additions to the pile.
This is where the Envirocycle Composter comes in. It is not the only bin capable of producing compost quickly. It isn't the only one which is vermin proof. It may not be the only one which isn't an eyesore. But, it is one of the few Tumbling Compost Bins which is all three AND is sturdy. But, most of all, it is one of very few which ticks all those boxes AND does not cost the earth.

Envirocycle Composter Plus Points
This is not a complete Envirocycle Composter Review. For that I think it would only be really fair if I had several and had been using them for years. After all, composting changes by the season. But, I have been busy reading customer reviews of the Envirocycle Compact Compost Tumbler on amazon and a few other sites. Using these, and my own experience of using many different forms of garden composter, led me to this...
My Top Ten Envirocycle Composter Plus Points.
- It's an Urban Compost Tumbler! This means no more manual turning of the compost and yet, compost created in weeks rather than months. Compost Tumblers are much faster than ordinary bins at creating usable hummus.
- It's a squat compost tumbler. This means it has a low centre of gravity and won't require ten men to turn it. Something that you cannot say about the ever popular (and ever difficult to turn) Tumbleweed Composter which stands up straight rotating with more and more strain the heavier it gets.
- This rotating compost bin has a HUGE lid. Simple to put stuff in, and easy to get stuff out again. More important than you think until faced with arm-fulls of hedge-clippings and no one to help!
- A sturdy, boxy spinning composter. So many of the compost bin tumblers are designed to sit high on thin tubular steel frames. Fine if you can put them on concrete, against a wall and convince no persons or dogs to go near them. This one, though sits low to the ground on it's plastic base. Yes, it should still be on something flat. But at least you don't need to worry about anyone falling into it at the next BBQ.
- It doubles as a Compost Tea Maker. The liquid which runs off from underneath most composters is full of all the nutrients in the compost heap. It is valuable organic liquid feed which all your plants will love. Usually it is wasted, leaving slightly soggy but very fertile ground around your compost bin. The Envirocycle Composter collects the liquid in its hollow base so you can drain it off whenever your plants or lawn need a boost.
- It's not just a spinner - it's also a roller. The Envirocycle drum can be rolled off its base and then rolled to wherever you want to use the finished compost. Now, have to be honest, this 'feature' is of no use whatsoever on my bumpy, hilly plot. But for those with flatter more open yards it saves on the wheelbarrow!
- It's vermin proof - well as vermin proof as a garden composter can be. There have to be ventilation holes so there is always the possibility of something getting in, but generally, in most places this composter will keep unwanted visitors out.
- It's not ugly! Okay, this is a completely personal point of view, but come on - do you really want a bright green and yellow barrel standing on the patio (have I mentioned I'm not a fan of the Tumbleweed?). At least this is dark, with the choice of green or black, and it's lower to the ground so you don't need to see it all the time! Choose black as it will 'disappear' and seem further away than it is - most important in small spaces.
- It has a pretty decent warranty. Okay, it's not guaranteed to last forever. But, in the world of compost tumblers, with frames, moving parts and spinning action, this one is above average. 5 years for the drum, 2 for the base and 1 for the wheels, axles and caps. To be honest, unless you're really clumsy it will last longer. But, if you want something guaranteed to last forget the Compost Tumblers altogether and choose instead a Basic But Brilliant SoilSaver Compost Bin. These beauties come with a 20 year warranty and will create garden compost nearly as fast but you will need to manually turn the contents a few times a week.
- The Envirocycle Composter is reasonably priced. This is a bit of a miracle in the world of compost bin tumblers, have you seen the prices? These come in at $130 - $150 on amazon which is extremely good. At least with prices this low you might be able to afford two. And, in all honestly one compost bin is rarely enough. Two composters ensure you always have somewhere to put more garden waste and kitchen scraps.
So there you have it, my top ten plus points for the Envirocycle Compost Tumbler. I think they're worth every penny, but that's just me.
