Introduction
In this hub I'm going to run through some of the most well-known easy to play eric clapton guitar tabs out there. You'll be learning from step-by-step videos and easy to read guitar tablature.
This is probably the most definitive resource available online for eric clapton guitar tabs, but as always if you have any questions, or if there is something I don't cover in here that would really help you out then please leave a comment at the end of this page, I do read and respond to them personally.
Tears In Heaven
Probably one of the most heart-felt beautiful songs ever released. This piece was written after the death of his son in 1991, I challenge anyone to listen to this and not be moved.
From the archives of the Eric Clapton Guitar Tabs this is by far the most requested song we've had, it's a tune that everyone will recognize and a piece that belongs in everyones song list.
It of course can be played on the Piano or Guitar, I'm providing links to the guitar versions of this song, so just let me know if you need standard notation for the piano and I'll try to sort something out.
First of all, if you haven't heard the song *gasp* here it is:

Currently the best version of this song floating around on the Internet has got to be the one hosted at Ultimate Guitar (they usually have the best btw).
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven Guitar Tabs
Just pick up your guitar and start playing along to the video above, you'll soon see where everything fits in, and get a feel for the tempo and chord changes.
Remember this is a ballad and needs to be played with feeling. Eric Clapton actually stopped playing this song live in 2004 because he didn't connect with it like he used to.
I'm not saying you should be as connected to Tears in Heaven as Eric Clapton was, but just try to think of a similarly emotional time in your life, and express it through the music.
Lyrics to Tears in Heaven
The lyrics to Tears in Heaven are pretty straight forward, there's no words that could really be misconstrued. Luckily the video above actually has the words in some sort of Kareoke arrangement.
Layla
Ok, so the runner up has to be this absolute classic: Layla by Claptons band Derek and the Dominos.
I've had a lot of fun playing this piece and it gets instant recognition wherever you go. Take the time to play the riff well, don't think you've got it after the first hour and a half.
I couldn't find a reliable video for Layla so I've put up this recording which is the cover art with the song playing in the background. It's all you need really, to master this Eric Clapton Guitar Tab.

Layla: Guitar Tabs
So here's the guitar tabs for Layla by Derek and the Dominos, it's the Acoustic version which is still very accurate, but the electric version is probably just a little more fun to play.
Once again here is the link to the Acoustic version of Layla
Phew... I managed to find the electric version of this piece, it's not quite as I remember it but it will give you a flying start toward playing this amazing Eric Clapton classic.
Actually after playing through that version it doesn't sound quite right. Let me know if any of you find a more accurate tab for layla (Derek and the Dominos)
Cocaine
I think we probably all know about this Eric Clapton hit: "Cocaine". Released in 1977 on the album Slowhand
It's an anti-drug song with a killer riff. I think we'd all like to be able to play this track flawlessly, but it has so many little nuances that you pretty much have to make up you own version anyway.
You might recall this was originally released by J J Cale, but Clapton was the one that really made it famous.
Here's a video of a live performance with Eric Clapton, be warned it freezes for about 1 second at 4 minutes 40 seconds... but other than that it's a pretty good clip.

Guitar Tabs: Cocaine
Don't be fooled by the seemingly easy guitar tabs for Cocaine. This track is really hard to get right. Also don't feel bad if you can't get the main riff feeling right after the first few days.
Steady practice while playing a lot of other songs will get you through this one, bring different elements to the song each time you play it, try it on as a ballad, or a bluesy piece, really mix it up until you make it your own.
Eric Clapton - Cocaine: Guitar Tabs
As the tabber says: There are a lot of guitar parts during the solo, so concentrate on the main one and improvise. Clapton is a magnificent player so don't try to mimic too closely, keep your focus on personalizing the song for you.
