Escape From Alcatraz Mystery Revealed
90Escape From Alcatraz , Mystery Solved At Last.
This Hub Page will reveal the truth about what really happened before and leading up to the escape from Alcatraz Prison in June of 1962 of Frank Morris and John and Clarence Anglin. Revealed here for the first time is the real truth about what happened before, during and after the trio escaped from Alcatraz.
Several years ago in fact back in the early 1990's while living in Seattle Washington and working at the Union Gospel Mission for the homeless downtown I met a nurse and came possession of a manuscript she and her family had written down as it was told by a older black man who was in a local hospice and dying of aids. He did later pass away and after I became friends with the nurse and her family she let me read the final and last words of the homeless man who later died of aids. Some time later she gave me the manuscript that she and her family had typed up from the dying mans words.
If the story is true it answers a lot of questions about one of the greatest mysteries of our time. And that is the escape from Alcatraz Prison of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers.
You see the nurse and her family became very close to the sick and dying man and he told them he wanted a record to be made about the real truth about the escape from Alcatraz of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers. After the nurse gave the typed manuscript to me I sold it to a Hollywood Movie producer who turned the manuscript over to the US Marshals Service. At that time the US Marshals Service checked out the story to the best of their ability and while they could not prove the story was true they also could not prove the story was false.
Over the years since I have thought often of my friends in Seattle and the manuscript which seemed to have all the answers to what happened before, during and after the escape from Alcatraz of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers. I have never saw the story in print or on television and so I am going to tell it here for everyone to read. Is it true? I have no ideal. I will tell you that the US Marshals Service took the story very serious and tried to verify it but were to the best of my knowledge not able to do so. I am going to change or leave out some names in this story to protect people or peoples families who are still alive today. It is a story that I truly believe deserves to be told. So I am going to tell it as I remember it.
On the night of June 11th 1962 Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers escaped from Alcatraz Prison. That much the world knows and it is a historical fact that the men did escape. And there the debate begins. Did the men drown and get washed out to sea or was their escape from Alcatraz a success. It is interesting to think about this. In almost every other case where a prisoner got into the water and drowned a body was almost always found. Sometimes not until days later but a body was found in almost every case. In the escape from Alcatraz of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers no body was ever found. And while its possible that one body might have never been found the chances are that at least one of the men's bodies would have been found. But no body was ever found.
And the reason for that according to the statement given to the nurse at the start of this story is that the men did get away that night. There was according to that statement a conspiracy that involved a woman from San Francisco, the black man who died of aids, a part time house painter crook from Seattle, a friend of Frank Morris who lived at that time in Seattle and at least one or more guards at Alcatraz Prison. The woman acted as a go between and acquired the services of the black man who we will call Robert here though that was not his name. Early in 1961 a man who Robert knew called him on the phone and asked him to meet a woman wearing a sweater with deer on it in a certain Catholic Church in the tenderloin area of San Francisco. The woman offered Robert a large sum of money if he could have a boat waiting in the bay just off Alcatraz on a certain night. Robert had a friend who painted houses in Seattle and we will call this man David. David provided the boat that was setting there on the night of the escape. He and Robert brought the boat down from Seattle and picked the escaped men up out of the water. Robert also told in his statement to the nurse that on several occasions he saw the woman who acted as the go between meet with at least one high ranking guard from Alcatraz and hand him a large sum of money. It was this guard who told Robert what night the boat needed to be in the water off Alcatraz.
Robert and David came down to San Francisco on a boat David had borrowed from his brother in law. Robert had been told exactly where in the bay to park the boat on the night in question and David took a wire loose in case the authorities were to approach the boat. The boat was in the water about a hundred yards off one end of Alcatraz island. David and Robert set there on the boat and listened to the radio while they waited on the convicts to get to them. Eventually they heard sounds in the water and they helped the escaped convicts into the boat. Four convicts had been expected not three. They took the convicts north to Seattle and there the convicts got into the back of Davids truck that he used for painting houses. They took the three escaped convicts to the home of a friend of Frank Morris.
There a real old man who was a friend of Frank Morris was holding the remains of a large sum of money minus what had been paid to Robert and David and to the woman in San Francisco and the guards at Alcatraz. It was still a large sum of money and the old man who had been a life long friend of Frank Morris told them he had arranged for a cabin for the men in Idaho. Robert and David agreed to take the men to Idaho in a couple of days and arranged to come back for them after dark the third day.
However David had saw the large sum of money and he came up with the plan to kill and bury the three convicts to get all the money. He and Robert went up to a pull off he knew of on the I90 Highway going east away from Seattle and there the two men dug a huge hole and left two shovels to cover up the hole with. David then went and got two 38 cal. pistols that he hid in the truck.
Just before dark on the evening of the third day the convicts were at the home of the friend of Frank Morris. David and Robert pulled up in the pick up truck and after a bit of talk the three men Frank Morris , John Anglin and Clarence Anglin got into the back of the pick up which had a camper cover over the back of the truck. David had fixed it so the back would only open from the outside and he and Robert had lined the back bed of the truck with blankets. David made a point of telling the men over and over about his bad kidneys and complained he had to take a leak to often. As they drove out of Seattle the hole they had dug was waiting.
About a hour out of Seattle David slid the little window back in the back window of the truck and told the three men, Frank Morris and John and Clarence Anglin that he was going to pull over for a minute to take a leak. He drove off the road and back to some rocks. Fifty feet away the hole they had dug waited. As David got out of the truck he handed Robert one of the two 38 cal revolvers and walked to the back of the truck. In the original statement Robert told how nervous he was at about what was going to take place.
According to the original statement Frank Morris knew almost at once something was wrong. As David raised his revolver Morris said. You SOB. But by this time David was firing and he yelled at Robert to fire also which Robert said he did. They fired until there was no movement and then they drug the men and all their belongings out and threw the men and all their belongings except for the money that the convicts had hid in a box into the hole. They then covered up the hole and drove away.
Later when the old friend of Frank Morris contacted Robert and asked what had happened to the men David stole the boat that was used in the escape and sunk it. The two men drifted apart and for several years Robert avoided David out of the fear the man might kill him. It was many years later when Robert was in the Hospice for Aids that he decided that the story needed to be told so he told the whole entire story to his nurse friend and she typed up and later gave me the original statement which I sold to the Hollywood Movie Producer and he turned it over to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Escape From Alcatraz, Final Words
Final Words On The Escape From Alcatraz
Is this story true? I myself really do believe that the story is true. I was once in possession of the original statement and it just simply tells to many details not to be true.
I really believe that the U.S. Marshals Service believed the story to be true. Though they now won't say one way or the other. I believe that Frank Morris and John and Clarence Anglin are dead and buried in a common grave just off I-90 east of Seattle and if they are then the 1962 Prison Escape was a success.
In the original statement it said on the way north to Seattle that the convicts listened to the radio because they believed that guards that had helped them would be arrested. And that the convicts were really surprised when no arrests of guards were mentioned on the radio. It is possible that even today that some where evidence still exists that would reveal that a conspiracy existed in 1962 when the escape occurred between the convicts who escaped and certain guards at Alcatraz Prison. Did the Bureau of Prisons know this information and cover it up.
What Did I Leave Out On This Hub Page?
I left out specific peoples names and some locations to protect people and peoples families who are still alive today. The original statement which the U.S. Marshals Service is in the possession of reveals specific peoples names and exact locations. Here I have left those details out. In case anyone is wondering I was born in May of 1959 so I took no part in the Escape from Alcatraz.
The original statement gave all the bloody details of how the convicts were shot to death in the back of the pick up truck. Both that truck and the two men who shot them are long gone. Probably the only way the skeletal remains of the three convicts will ever be found is by accident.
The U.S. Marshals Service told me that I-90 has changed so much over the years that even though the statement gave specific details and directions to the grave-site that they just couldn't locate the exact location where the three men were said to be buried. And I'm sure they looked very hard. So that about concludes my story of the Escape From Alcatraz, Mystery Solved. If you have any comments or questions feel free to post them below.
