Europe's Top Car Could Be Your Next Saturn

GM is taking a lot of pain in North America, but it can breathe some fresh air over in Europe. The Insignia (from its German subsidiary Opel) has been crowned as Europe's Car of the Year. What's even better is that the Insignia may come Stateside as a replacement for the Saturn Aura early in the next decade.
Here's the lowdown:
- The Opel team carfefully designed a multi-tone interior loaded with upscale features and materials. The central navigation system is operated by a center dial akin to those found in Jaguars and Bimmers.
- The Insignia is presently offered in three bodystyles: saloon, hatch, and "sports tourer" (wagon).
- Engineers have focused on creating a flexible suspension to create as smooth a ride as possible. Expect Benz comfort with an Accord price.
- Special all-wheel-drive to corner with total precision by transferring power to the outer wheels.
- Adaptive lighting that automatically changes with the outside conditions.
- Three petrol and two diesel engines, as well as six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes, are offered in the initial package.
It's a step over out Aura...but when will we see it? Expect a change by 2012. The Aura, an award-winning car in its own right, is stated with a five-year running cycle.
