Rhubarb Catering is different to other catering companies. Based at the Avon Wildlife Trust’s HQ at Folly Farm in Chew Magna means not only are we cooking and looking after our guests in beautiful surroundings, we also have immediate access to local farms where we can ensure we only buy quality produce which is in season. This also means that when Rhubarb cater for your event anywhere in the South West you can be sure that our food only comes from well vetted producers.
We cater for weddings and parties (whether it's a hog roast BBQ or six course wedding banquet) and take a different approach to other caterers and venues who sometimes are only able to offer set menus which rotate around the year.

Rhubarb- an Organic vs. Ethical Catering Company?
Each member of Rhubarb Catering Company in Bristol has their own take on the Organic vs. Ethical debate however we are very lucky to have a base at Folly Farm outside Chew Magna so we have easy access to a great many farmers in the area and can pick and choose our favourites.
Each member of the team worked for a while at Quartier Vert (Bristol) which in its earlier days was Rocinantes (or The Tapas Bar). Rocinantes was a pioneer of organic food in the late 1980s and the tradition was still strong when the restaurant closed its doors in March 2009.
These days the debate has moved on- we now have to consider food miles, carbon footprint and the cost of Soil Association accreditation. Rhubarb visit local farmers and discuss what is in season and more importantly what will be in season on the date of your event. Knowing the seasonality and availability of produce gives us an insight into the larger picture of food production. We discuss with the farmers the use of pesticides and other chemicals and only then make a desicion as to whether their farming policies match our philosophies.

We are an eco friendly catering company.

Event Catering at Dyrham Park for Jools Holland et al (Part2) .hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { font-size: 10pt; font-family:Verdana } I was suddenly summoned back to my car where I was told the coach driver had tried to reverse out of the lane and my car was in the way! No Problem! I said and sauntered back to my car, by this stage all clothing was reduced to a soggy, brown mess. The driver had managed to reverse in to the big metal gate and his radiator grill was hanging off, not being helped by the nice friendly security man attempting to pull it off, push it back on, pull it off etc etc. It transpired that my car wasn't in the way at all so I merrily drove off back to Bristol, with an empty vehicle and a happy marquee of scoffing musicians and artists. Along with the organisers, we decided for the Jools Holland event the next day, that I should just drive straight across the field to avoid the kerfuffle from that day. No problem. After a night of persistant, heavy downpour it was apparant that my rally driving skills were really going to have to be put to the test this time! Armed with more sandwiches for the hard working backstage crew, I stopped for a moment at exit No 2 (yes, exit, well, there was no-one there...) and contemplated the slight slope (now looking more like a peat bog) which led across the main field and around to the backstage area. Putting my foot firmly on the accelerator, I imagined being the celebrity lapper, and successfully arrived at the gate leading to my destination. This is where it became a full on rally, with hay being thrown on the worst bits, cars in the distance being pulled from their predicament by tractors or sympathetic if not slightly smug land rover owners.. I managed to get round to the backstage area but as the car started to slip and slide and become bespattered with mud and hay, I made the executive decision to stop. Just where I was. This made me look really efficient and clever but I still had to negotiate the 2 foot mud wells that had formed between me and the tent. In for a penny in for a pound I bravely stepped, skidded, slided my way to the buffet table with lunch for the crew. 3 down, 1 to go! Hoorah! With further monsoon level rain throughout the afternoon the final drop was not going to be easy. But it WAS Jools Holland, and I was going to finish this job with the professionalism and calm that it deserved. Sure enough, our buffet of home made quiche, Local Cheese board, Organic bread, antipasto pots, Fresh Green salad, Fresh fruit platters, charcuterie and Home Made Shepherd's Pie looked delicious and on Sunday morning when I went to collect all of our kit, there wasn't a morsel in sight! Event Catering Bristol- Seasonality
In this day and age it is sometimes difficult to remember the seasons when it comes to food and event planning. You can buy almost any ingredient at any time of the year.
At Rhubarb Catering we have very close ties to the lovcal farmers and know when their various crops will be harvested. With this in mind you can be sure that we will be taking this into account when we sit down to plan your event with you.
I came across the first gooseberries last week and was instantly reminded of the heavenliness of gooseberry fool and the many years of my mother making it for such a short period of time. Another favourite gooseberry dish is served with mackerel- I think that I was with an old self taught chef who'd picked up this recipe somewhere in Cornwall.
That's all for now,

Some Testimonials
"Rhubarb provided the catering and bar service for my Brother’s
wedding at which I was both best man and “wedding manager”, Ollie and
his new wife Becky had spoken on how impressed they where and how easy
rhubarb had been to deal with before the event, even having asked for
many non-standard items. On the big day I took over and was amazed by
the way that quietly and efficiently brilliant food was served to the
tables at the right time for more than a hundred people. Producing
great food is only half the battle, what I appreciated most from
Rhubarb was that all the staff where charming friendly and helpful –
helping massively to keep me calm, collected and enjoying myself,
making what could have been a very stressful and busy day for me, just
a fun, busy one! They were a delight!
Should you ever have a
possible client that feels they want to speak direct to someone with
experience with your company- please feel free to get them to email
me."

"All our food was so very good to eat – Jo, Matt and her team took such trouble"

"I just wanted to thank you and your chef very much for the wonderful food you provided for our wedding. Thanks for all your efforts and for being so accommodating of our needs. It was a real pleasure to deal with you at such short notice. Thank you."

"Rhubarb
produce food that is astoundingly good and so fresh it almost pops off
the plate! Using locally sourced quality produce is important to me. We
had Trout en Croute (with fish caught from nearby Chew Valley Lake)
which was delicious served with wild garlic as a vegetable. Although
I’ve never made it myself I loved the nettle soup too. Whether it is
main course or pudding this food is vibrant and unmissable!"
