Event marketing is a special kind of marketing and involves promoting products or services through sponsoring or hosting events like concerts, sporting events, art exhibits and other events.  An event marketing approach offers the person doing the promotion a good opportunity to build and establish good public relations among the members of the target market or audience that will be attending the event and also lets them get out in the public and to be seen by people who may not have been interested in their product at first.  Event marketing is also a great opportunity for them to market and sell their products and to promote any aspect of the business they want to.  The event itself may be related in some way to the product or service that the company is offering or could simply be a way to attract interested parties to come and find out more.  No matter how an event marketing event is approached, it can be very beneficial to the company that is hosting it and help their business to grow and flourish.  Here is some more information about event marketing to help you make the best decisions for you company and to help you promote yourself.

Overview

Event marketing has become a very important part of the marketing industry and scene and is accepted by marketing professionals the world over as a great way to do business and to be seen in public, which can be very important to the success of any company.  Event marketing could be sponsored by the company or could not be sponsored, but the most common way is to sponsor the event and to take every opportunity to promote the name and product of the sponsoring company.  Event marketing has become very popular because it allows the company to directly promote their product to people who are likely to be interested in it and it also provides an occasion for them to be seen in the public eye, which can draw even more potential customers to them.  Direct consumer interaction is important in event marketing which allows the company to promote their communication goals at the same time.

Almost every business has a group or people or specific kind of person that they are trying to market to in order to promote business (if it doesn't, the company may be headed for financial disaster) and this idea is very important in the world of marketing. Targeting specific groups of potential customers is very important to marketing professionals so they can ensure that they are spending money on promoting the product to the right people at the right time. Event marketing allows a business to target specific groups of people or specific other companies that will help them gain a competitive edge in the marketplace. Event marketing can be done either as the sponsor of the event or as a participant contributing to the event itself. Of course there is no limit to the ways that event marketing can be changed and adapted to fit the needs of each individual company that wants to use this method to support their business. Event marketing can also be a simple local even or even a national or global forum or conference, depending on the size of the business and the marketing and communications goals of the company. One of the most important objectives of hosting or attending an event marketing promotion is to generate goodwill in the community and to bring new customers into your sphere of influence so that you can learn about what is important to them and more effectively market to them. Event marketing can also be a very good place to do market research or observation and to learn more about your target market and what other ways might be taken to delight them. There are many different types of event marketing and many variations on the theme but some of the most common are trade shows, meetings, sponsorships, seminars and workshops, concerts, events at shopping malls, plant or facility tours, or even online event marketing. So many options give each business a different way to approach the idea of event marketing and offer the flexibility they need to promote their own way and to their own audience.

Trade shows may be the largest and most important form of event marketing used today. They are very important to the success of many companies and it is believed that if you are anybody in the marketplace, you need to have a booth or some other sort of presentation at the trade show or convention. Some great things that you can use trade shows for are branding your company and your products and getting the word out about them, expanding the marketplace, prospecting for new business, increasing sales, educating purchasing agents from other companies on your products and services, learning about what's new in the industry, announcing new products and services and many more things. Seminars are another great way to help you market your business and to help you expand the reach and scope of your business. Workshops fit into this same category and are also a great way to improve business. Different levels of planning and the difference in people who actually attend a seminar or workshop will affect how productive the event is. The result you are hoping to get from the seminar may also help you determine how much time, money and effort you put into hosting an event. One important thing to keep in mind with a seminar or workshop is that it has to be informational and helpful to the person that is going to be attending. You have to provide them with useful information that will help them to improve their business or their own life too. They will not want to do business with you if your workshop is really just a sales presentation under the guise of a seminar. This can be a very major turn off to potential clients who are expecting to get much more out of it.

Event marketing applied to a number of different situations.

If you want people to attend your conference or other marketing even, then they need to know about it in advance so they can plan to attend and anticipate what they will get from it. Any event should be planed down to the details far in advance of it actually occurring. Get people to buy tickets to your event early and have enough time so that you can sell as many tickets as possible. Make sure that there is enough time for people to make changes if they need to and so that the word can get out about the event so that the people you really want to know about it can find out. You can also limit the number of tickets you use and apply the scarcity principle to incite people to buy as soon as they can and commit to attending the event. You need to think about weather if you are going to have an outdoor event and need to plan an alternate location or accommodations if the weather should turn nasty. If weather is going to be an issue, you should also have some way of telling the people that are attending your event that they will still be able to come and take advantage of the opportunities that will be found at your event. They should know that alternatives will be in place in case of bad weather and that they should still be comfortable coming. Planning ahead helps you control the weather and make the most of your even no matter what is happening outside.

If you are going to be hosting an event you need to make sure that the event is marketed well so that people can come and really see what you have to offer. Sometimes it's a good idea to have someone else market your event for you. Getting a recommendation from a friend, family member or business associate may really do more to convince someone that they should go to something or check out a product. Personal recommendations are a great way to promote your event and can also help other people to benefit too. You may offer them monetary compensation, some other sort of incentive or even free admission to your even for getting someone else to commit to attend. Talk to previous clients and let then know that you have an event coming up and that you want to get people to attend that would be interested in the same products that they have purchased in the past. Let them know that their business is very important to you and that you value their commitment as a customer as well. Allow them to attend the event for free or at a discounted price if the will recommend your company and your product of service to someone else who attends. This can also take a significant amount of time to plan and to make happen but getting a person at your even that was recommended by a previous or current customer can really help improve the chances of making a sale later and converting them to do business with you too.

No matter what type of event you are taking on you should make sure that it is really what is best for your business and isn't something that you want to do or that would be cool. If there is not going to be a significant benefit for your business in the future that outweighs the cost of putting on an event then it is not worth the time or trouble to commit to.
