Ever Had a Flower You Wanted To Save?

Floral Preservation

By D. Barrow

Saving a flower?  Now, this may seem like a strange question because flowers are not known to be saved. Sure, they can last for several days to a week, but then they die, along with the memories and joy of the occasion.  On the other hand, what if you could save a flower from a special time for many years into the future?  In a survey, this question was asked to a group of people, and nearly everyone not only said yes, but they also recalled the event where the flowers were used.

Most of the time flowers appear at once-in-a-lifetime events, moments that can never be duplicated or relived.  What about those roses so carefully selected for a wedding; funeral flowers that were the favorites of a deceased loved one; a baby’s birth; a prom; an anniversary, Valentines Day; a gift for a recovering patient; a pageant or any other special occasion. All of these events involve family, friends and relationshp, .the cornerstone to our existence.  Isn’t it fitting that we would want treasured keepsakes from these affairs?

From weddings to high school proms, flowers play a significant role, and these are moments we greatly cherish.  We want the happiness and feelings to live on, and to be a delightful reminder of those special days.  Of course, we want to save those flowers because their meaning far exceeds just being a plant. The gift or presence of flowers speak a language like no other; words of love, devotion, gratitude and endearment.

Fortunately, through the process of floral preservation, flowers can be saved.  Quite simply, floral preservation is the process of extracting moisture from the flowers.  This process includes drying, matting, encasing and sealing the flowers to create a beautiful keepsake, which lasts for many years.  Floral preservation is not new; it reaches back centuries to the development of Oshibana “pressed flower art” by the Japanese.

Since then, the science and art of floral preservation has come quite a distance.  Profess-ional floral preservation procedures will maintain the flowers’ shape and color, allowing for the flowers to be kept in an air tight encasement.  The sealing process keeps the encasement in tact for many years, and becomes a family keepsake and heirloom.

Today, these floral encasements are displayed on the walls and table tops of many homes. They are not hidden away, as they are enjoyed by family members on a daily basis, and admired by all guests who enter the home.  Not surprisingly, these flowers were desired to be saved.  And, with modern floral preservation techniques, it is possible to do so.

So, the question of “ever had a flower you wanted to save”; doesn’t have to be in the past. If your event is happening now, and you want to preserve the moments, consider prolong ing the life of your precious memories for all to see.  Visit your local Floral Preservationist today!
