Exercise, very important
Exercise, very important

40 & Fighting

Yes, I am a woman over the age of 40 (barely) and struggling with the belly fat. As sad as it is to write, I realize that I am over 40 but my body doesn't have to be! I have great legs and other parts, however, I am seriously concerned over my belly bulge. I workout 5 days a week, I eat healthy and do stray from time to time but come on, why do I have this belly? I am short but fit and then when I put on these tight shirts I look pregnant!

I look at these young girls with the "muffin tops" and I am stressing that I have a belly. These girls I see aren't ashamed to show the muffin top all over the place and I am 40 and wear loose shirts to hide it! I think something might be wrong with me since I am more confident and understand my body but can't for the life of me figure out what is going on. I have read every diet book known to mankind and still can't get my belly fat under control!

Is it the environment, because I don't remember ever having a "muffin top" or pregnant belly when I was growing up. In fact, the only time I sit is to work or write, but outside of that, I stay on my feet. So am I too old to be too fit? These are thoughts the bug my mind at night, the brain waves pumping like crazy to figure out what I am doing wrong because I am not losing this extra belly weight. I don't want the belly fat but I am lucky, I guess that I don't have the muffin top.  However, through time and research, I have learned to eat right and when I splurge then I must pay the price, which is the extra belly fat.

So all you pretty, attractive, confident women out there, start now, splurge a little, not a lot.  Fight against the times of eating fast food and workout to stay healthy.   When you turn 40, you won't have the belly that I have because you started younger and worked hard to eat right and exercise, because that is what it comes down to.  Forget the diet pills and the fad diets, eat right and exercise, that is what it takes.  Good luck and be strict, it will be worth it!

Hi ladybird

Check out Kelley Eidem's hub page about ending food cravings and getting a flat tummy...I thought it was interesting and am trying the protocol myself for the same reason. Hope it helps

It's a struggle most women are face with. Belly fat is the main collection of fat, due to diet, stress, and the skin being stretched from pregnancy. I have found that layers, 'mom' pants (high waists), and empire waisted clothing helps to hide the bulge. I do not work out as much as you, and love to indulge in chocolate, candy, french fries and beer, so I admire your self discipline!

Hi Ladybird33, I agree that in your 40s it is more challenging to loose the belly fat. I am struggling with that. Even with working out 4 or 5 times a week, I struggle to maintain my waistline. Anyway take heart, we are on the right path to good health, we just have to keep working at it with exercise and diet.

Great hub.

It's hard for me to accept the belly fat -- I was always fit and trim. However, being pregnant 6 times kinda changes things! But, light is on the shore as I'm working out harder and starting to see a waistline again! Keep at it, Ladybird, you'll see results too! BTW, your reference to young girls with muffin tops -- so dead on!
