Everyday Miracles
61Beauty in the World Around You
Instead of focusing on all that is wrong in the world today, try to see the beauty and miracles around you. I spend a lot of time depressing myself by worrying about, well, everything. But I've finally made a decision to think positively and optimistically. A sunset is so beautiful and I watch in awe as the colors beam across the sky in brilliant orange and red. The clouds become a palette of colors that grow darker as the sun sinks lower into the horizon. There is so much color around us - rainbows, butterflies, and and flowers spreading their petals to the bright sun.
Is there anything more precious than a baby cuddling with its mother? For me, there is nothing cuter than kittens and puppies bouncing around; fuzzy ducklings frolicking in a pond; baby birds chirping in the trees for food; babies shaking their rattles and cooing; babies of all species snuggling up for a nap or taking their first steps. These things make me smile. Are you smiling yet?
Unfortunately for me, food also brings me happiness. Yum, a funnel cake with strawberries and whipped cream makes me drool and that steak on the grill makes my stomach rumble. My eyes grow big and round when I see a wedding cake with all the fancy decorations made with creamy icing. How about those chocolates in the heart-shaped box or the scoops of ice cream melting in the cone!
People that can draw and paint a picture create beauty. (I like to work on jigsaw puzzles and thus create a beautiful picture.) A sparkling jewel that captures the light is a wonder. So many crafts and creations add to our lives as well as our state of mind.
Miracles are all around us every day. How does a butterfly change from a catepillar? How do babies cry so loud - no wait, not that one. How do plants grow greener after a lightening storm? Did you ever notice how beautiful lightening is as it streaks across the sky? How do airplanes actually fly and stay in the air?
Find the beauty and miracles around you and take a break from worry and stress.

Colour has always been my big turn-on. I love to watch the sun set over the sea, as the waves turn yellow and pink and orange, and the sky becomes like that Turner painting, 'the Fighting Temeraire', ablaze with golden light. I love the early morning light in the garden too, with it's mysterious sense of a new day unfolding. Sunrise, sunset, seed-time and harvest. It's all a miracle!
Thanks for writing this hub. It's good to focus on nature and the simple pleasures all around us.
