There are many different definitions of what a paradox is. The definition that I am referring to is "situation which defies intuition" (as defined by Wikipedia at the time of this writing).

Below are some examples of paradoxes. As your read through some of these examples, it can also be the case that sometimes a situation that does not seem to make sense at first, really does turn out to make sense when you think about it further. That is the act of learning in progress. And it is always good to learn about our world.

  • Is it better to work at Starbucks or as an high-paying executive? According to Michael Gill, it is better to work at Starbucks. Read about his story.
  • Have we become so obsessed with social networks, that we forget to call 911 and use Facebook and Twitter to contact help? Apparently in some cases, yes. Read story.
  • Is it possible for a blind person to be a racist? Apparently, it is. Read and hear the moving story.
  • You would think that an busy intersection such as the one in this video would need some traffic lights. Apparently, they can do without.
  • Why is the health care payment system of one of the wealthiest country in the world such a mess? See the current problems as of 2009 and sort out some of the myths. Hopefully with some reform, it will no longer be such a problem.
  • Was the United States flag designed by a kid in school? Well, sort of. Hear the full story.
  • The online classified-ads website CraigsList with revenues estimated at over $100 million dollars a year and with site traffic that rivals Amazon and eBay, you would think that it is a large organization with a fancy headquarter. No, it is run by about 30 employees from a Victorian-style house turned into an office. Its founder and CEO is not interested in making money either. Read story and hear interviews.
  • Did you know there is a pen that can record? See it here.

There are obviously much more examples, but these are just a few that I had time to write about.
