Even telescopes uses Twitter and sends messages about its current status

Twitter has become a widely popular network, with users sending short messages about their status, what they are doing, to their friends and network. Even the politicians are into it like Barack Obama, who gives updates of where he is campaigning, what meeting he is attending etc., is a good way of letting his followers know about his current status.

Now add one object to Twitter, not a person but an object, telescope that has a Twitter account. The telescopes of the University of Manchester’ s Jodrell Bank Observatory in UK, have different Twitter accounts and updates its users what the telescopes are exploring.

A British astronomy fan, Stuart, set up this site Astronomy blog in order to get the latest updates of the telescopes in the form of feeds. Stuart has more plans for it and wants to integrate with Google Earth and Maps.

Here are some observations seen in Twitter from the various telescopes. You can check their feed here.

42ft Observing: B1133+16 - pulsar

LovellTelescope Observing: B1842+14 - pulsar

MKII Observing: 3C286 - quasar (calibration object)

It will be great for astronomy scientists and students.
