Dalworthington Gardens, Texas

Dalworthington Gardens, DWG for short, is located snug in the heart of Arlington, Texas. In 1933, a man by the name of Carl Mosig bought a 15 acre homestead on Arkansas Ln. Carl one day met Elliot Roosevelt, son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Elliot brought his mother, Eleanor, to Mosig's estate and Eleanor soon fell in love with this "one lane country town". Eleanor soon built a colony on the land south of Mosig's and called it, "Dalworthington Gardens". The very first citizens of DWG were faced with many hardships; no fences, no paved roads of driveways. It was then in 1936 when DWG was founded. The street Roosevelt that runs through the middle of the town, is named after the Roosevelt family, one of the first reisdents of DWG.

DWG Today

DWG today has grown numerously since 1936. DWG is 1.9 square feet big, 1.8 being land and 0.1 being water. DWG is a portmanteau of its surrondings: Dal for Dallas, worth for Fort Worth, and ington for Arlington. DWG has one body of water, Pappy Elkins Lake. There are 2 parks in DWG, DWG Park and Veterans Park. DWG is know for its big lots. Some might even say its a small country community in a big city. The homes in DWG are some of the biggest and nicest in Tarrant county.

Public Services

Dalworthington Gardens police officers are, in my opinion, some of the best in the nation. Many of the police officers are trained in law enforcement, but also fire fighting and medical skills. Some of the units DWG has are Tactical Ops, motorcyle and bicycle officers, and Emergency Medical Technicians. DWG is the first law enforcement agency in Texas to carry the AED pads in their units. AED pads, or Automated External Defibrillator pads, can boost the chances of survive after suffering a heart attack. DWG also has two fire engines and one squad; Engine 43, which is new, Engine 243, and Squad 43. So why is living in a small community with public services better then a big city? Well take this for example. (example) You are at home when suddenly, your elderly grandmother has a heart attack. Living in a big city, it would take almost 30 minutes to get an ambulance to your location. But, if you live in DWG, DWG is so small that the medical services your grandmother needs right away will be there in around 1 to 2 minutes! What a difference to save a life!

DWG DPS has been attacked many times for drawing blood from suspected DWI drivers. Many people have a problem with this, but I personally think it is very smart. Sobriety tests don't prove anything... walk the straight line? If you are drunk and they draw your blood, that gives them an automatic answer as to if they were drunk and driving or not. Regardless, Don't Drink and Drive!

Education

DWG is located in the Arlington Independent School District. DWG is home to Key Elementary and the Montessori Academy. Some close schools include Martin High, Arlington High, and Gunn Junior High.

Fun Facts

- DWG is home to some popular characters. Pantera's guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell, Texas Rangers sportcaster Tom Grieve, NBC's Nashville Star winner Melissa Lawson, and Star Telegram writer Jim Reeves.

- Every May, DWG has a program called "A Day With the Law" where you can come out, get some free pizza and drinks and meet the DPS.

Well, I hope this hub taught you about DWG, its rich history, its amazing DPS, and what a great town Dalworthington Gardens, Texas really is! Thanks!

John,

You have a very clean, transparent writing style. All of your thoughts transition quite effortlessly and smoothly. I was a little surprised but very interested in the founding of DWG. It was wonderful to gain some knowledge about a very pretty, and very local area! Keep posting links on Facebook... I enjoy reading your brief but informative articles. :) ~Lydia

John,

Do you know the name of the public swimming pool and park that was located on Bowen Road in the early '60s? We're not sure if it was in DWG or Pantego. Thanks.

I am not sure and have never heard of a park with swimming pool on Bowen. That may be in Pantego.
