It is very tough to visualize the internet as it stands today without the presence of images. Images are a very powerful force for humans and something that cannot be accurately replaced by words; however, on the internet and other online media, there is always a tussle between which gets more coverage in a space. Imagery in HTML email for bulk email marketing is especially problematic because an email is a place that is more restricted in space than web pages. Additionally, there are the effects of spam filters to think about if you end up overdoing images. Of course, one cannot overlook the simple aspect of what one is selling in the first place.

When you use images in an email for marketing goods and services, you must first judge the need for images in the first place. This can be an easy task that starts with figuring out your product. If your product is one which does not sell on the basis of how it looks then the need for imagery is greatly reduced and text should be doing all the work of selling the product. On the other hand, if your product is one that would traditionally require a lot of touch and feel, then images are absolutely necessary.

Once you decide the necessity of images in your HTML email, the next step is to figure out the type of images that you need to use. When you are selling a product that requires a lot of traditional touch and feel, the first step is to get images of the product from many angles. You should also try and label these images and use as many callouts as you can to describe the product. Needless to say that your text should also do some work here to ensure that it describes the product.

However, what would you do if you are selling a service and not a product? In this situation, you could ideally use a video to get the message across but if this is not an option then the images that you use should show slides of the benefit of the product, like cost savings, budget reductions, and the like. In all of these combinations of using images, the most important thing to remember is that some email clients will block the download of images from the net.

In these situations, the overemphasis of images in your HTML email can prove to be quite debilitating; therefore, it is important that you cover for this contingency by ensuring that the text is strong enough to stand on its own and images do not become a dependency. Do not fall prey to some ludicrous practices like using one huge image in an email. This is spammer technique and spam filters are quite used to seeing mails like this when the parse the HTML code of each email. Spam filters deal with these kinds of emails by sequestering them to the spam folder.
