Exchange Hosting
Today, more and more companies are looking at their finances and trying to cut unnecessary expenses and increase their profitability. To tell you the truth, I think that more companies should be doing this at all times, not just when the economy is in the pot.
One way that companies have found to cut expenses and save money is by opting to purchase exchange hosting services and outsource their business email needs. At first, a company might think that outsourcing their business email is a cost that they don't want to incur, but at second glance, you can easily see why this option will save your company boat loads of money.
Purchasing or Renting a Mail Server
If you opt to host your company email internally, then you have two options when it comes to server space. One, you can purchase a mail server to send your email from. Two, you can rent a server to send your email from. Either way, you are incurring a cost to send your email.
If you opt for exchange hosting services, the email hosting company owns the servers that you will be sending and receiving mail on. There is no cost to you other than the monthly fee you pay to the exchange hosting company. This can save your company big bucks, especially if you were planning on purchasing a mail server.
Maintaining a Mail Server
If you have never been involved in maintaining a mail server than you don't really know how much effort and time is involved in keeping the server functioning a a high level.
To maintain a mail server, you have a to have a temperature controlled room. To set a room up that is temperature controlled is quite expensive. Keeping a mail servers operating system and software up to date is also a time consuming and sometimes expensive task as well. In addition to these two things, you have to keep viruses and malware from penetrating your server and attacking your employees computers. These types of software are expensive and cleaning up an attack gets even more expensive.
If you opt for a hosted exchange company, they do all of that for you. They literally take away the worry and stress of maintaining a server.
Man Power
Owning or renting a mail server is not and easy task for your employees. You have to have a technical or IT staff that is dedicated to taking care of it 24/7. These individuals come with hefty salary expectations and payouts. Cutting these employees from your payroll can save you so much money during the course of a year that it would pay for your exchange hosting service many times over.
As you can clearly see, exchange hosting is an excellent option for just about every company. It saves time, it reduces stress, and saves so much money. If you haven't looked into this option, now is an excellent time to do so.

Great points! Here's something to also think about -- Does managing IT infrastructure (like servers for your email, websites, etc) really help add business value? Does it drive core competencies that can differentiate you in the market?
Why spend your most valuable resources, your employees and their time, on something that will not add value to your business?
