The best exercises to lose weight

Tired of hearing the usual blah, blah about aerobic Vs. muscle training? Or, maybe you are on a holiday, far away from a gym? Or perhaps you just can’t get to a gym? How can you exercise to lose weight?

Before I get into that, let me tell you why I am something of an expert when it comes to unconventional but highly effective exercises. You see, I am the mother of three little girls, and believe me, there are days when I just cannot get to the gym. Sometimes, it is a runny nose or a high fever, other days it could be shopping lists or plain stress. But, I know I cannot afford to put my legs up and take a rest even on those days when I cannot go for my regular rounds of exercises. Then, I turn to these less conventional but fun ways of pumping blood.

House chores are good for you: Scrub, clean, dust, wash the dishes – these not only make your house look sparkling clean. They burn a lot of calories. So, roll up them sleeves and get to work!

Take the stairs: This one is really very, very effective. Climb stairs for about 5 minutes. Your thighs, hips and bottoms will thank you for it. OK. No time to climb stairs? Do it in between TV programs, during those fairly generous servings of commercials.

Turn the music on: Move your body to your favorite tune. This one is another handy but highly effective exercise. The more you gyrate the more calories you are burning.

Do squats: Squat up and down. Aim for 50 reps in under three minutes and do two sets. This exercise causes a huge oxygen deficit in the body. It literally gobbles all the fat.

Take to your treadmill: Here is something interesting to do on the treadmill. Walk on the treadmill for three minutes. Then start running for five minutes. Slow down to a walk again. Repeat two times. You will burn more than twice the number of calories than if you were simply walking.
