Laptop has taken over the desktop in popularity and most of the people use laptop these days. Although laptops can be carried anywhere, many people still use laptop like a desktop. They keep it plugged to mains all the time. This is much better than using a desktop, as UPS is also required with desktop in many countries where power failure is quite frequent.

But keeping your laptop connected to mains all the time reduces it's battery's useful life, as the battery is subjected to a constant charging and recharging. This constant charging and recharging is required to keep your battery charged at specific voltage. Hence it is better to remove the laptop battery when laptop is being continuously operated on mains. This will prevent constant charging and recharging of battery and will extend the useful life of the battery.

In case removal of the battery is not possible, remove the mains jack from your laptop at least once a week and run the laptop on battery for couple of hours. Discharging the battery this way every week and recharging it extends its useful life.
