When I first heard about eyebrow tattoos, I pictured some biker chick in a bar with skulls tattooed above her eyes.  Now while some men and women do have tattoos like this, that's not the most common type.  This article is about cosmetic eyebrow tattoos.  We'll discuss the who, what and where in due course but first I think it's important to talk about the history of eyebrow tattoos.  These things have been around forever.  Apparently, mummies from countries like Greece and Turkey have been found with tattoos where their eyebrows should be.  Skip ahead a few hundred centuries and you can see a fantastic example of eyebrow tattooing in silent films.  These movies from the 1920's often feature men and women with permanent eyebrow tattoos.

Now while at one time, it was only the vain and beautiful people of the world what considered undergoing this procedure.  Today, though, it is very common among men and women from all walks of life.  This makes perfect sense really.  Caring for eyebrows is a tedious and high maintenance chore.  Who has time to wake up everyday and spend time penciling and tweezing their brows to perfection?  Imagine having eyebrows that were permanently set...  No more tweezing, no more shaping, no more makeup.

Who Should Consider Getting An Eyebrow Tattoo?

There are a number of different types of people that may be interested in this procedure.  They all have one thing in common though - The desire for a better looking brow.  Some folks suffer from thin or non-existent eyebrows due to circumstances beyond their control.  Maybe they've suffered through some kind of accident that's left them without eyebrows.  Others may be suffering from the side effects of cancer treatments like chemotherapy or radiation.  Makeup allergies are also really common.  While it's possible for most women to fill out their eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil, allergy sufferers aren't so lucky.  A lot of people that get eyebrow tattoos aren't experiencing any of the above though.  They simply can't be bothered to constantly shape, tweeze and reshape their eyebrows!

The Procedure

Cosmetic eyebrow tattooing is very similar to normal tattooing.  There are essentially two different methods that are commonly practiced - mechanical and manual.  The mechanical method involves the use of a tattoo gun filled with ink.  The ink is obviously non toxic and doesn't include any lead.  It's quick and relatively painless.  It's not quite as accurate as the manual method though.  If you have thinner eyebrows, chances are a tattoo artist will recommend using a needle to do the tattoo.  This allows more detail to be drawn into the new brow.  Obviously a good tattoo artist is crucial if you're thinking about undergoing this type of surgery.  I recommend doing a lot of research.  Get online and check out a few different artists work.  You can even read reviews or ask to meet some former clients of the artist in question.

Good luck!
