There is really only one reason why anyone would consider an eyebrow transplant - They're not happy with their current brows.  For most of these people, it's because they are too thin.  Not too many men or women out there complain about having thick, luscious eyebrows that are easy to shape and trim.  Nope...  99% of patients that undergo some kind of eyebrow transplantation do so because there brows are too thin.  There isn't enough hair and they are, thus, very difficult to sculpt or style.  So why are some people's eyebrows thinner than others?  This is a tough question to answer because every case is different.  With some folks, it's simply genetics.  Some people are born with thick eyebrows and others aren't.  It's just the way it is!  Other less fortunate individuals have actually lost some, or even all, of their eyebrow hairs in an accident of some kind.

The amount of hair that one wants transplanted into their brow is also dealt with on a case to case basis.  Some want a complete rebuild.  Maybe they've lost their brows in some kind of a chemical fire and the hair hasn't grown back.  In cases like this, a full on transplant is usually done.  The most common procedures, though, are done for cosmetic reasons.  I'm basically referring to women who want to thicken up their eyebrows with more hair.  While they may not want a "thick" look, they do want to be able to tweeze and sculpt their brows to match their face.  With thin eyebrows, this is tough to do.

Eyebrow Transplant Surgery - A Bit More Information

Eyebrow Transplant Success!
Eyebrow Transplant Success!

Any type of surgery can be pretty nerve racking.  As far as cosmetic surgeries go though, this eyebrow hair transplant is pretty straightforward.  Here's how it typically goes down.  Please keep in mind that I'm not a doctor!  There are plenty of resources online that can point you in the direction of a qualified reputable surgeon.  I encourage you to do a lot of exploring before going under the knife...

Anyway, the hair that's going to end up in your brow is taken from a donor.  The cool thing about this procedure is that, when all is said and done, you'll have a whole new set of eyebrows!  That's right!  They'll grow just like they are your own.  This is crucial because styles are constantly changing.  You don't want to be stuck with something that's popular now but bound to get old.  You want to be able to shape and reshape your new toys!

A good doctor will really take his time with this procedure.  Usually only 1 or 2 hairs are done at a time.  It's very important that they are put in exactly the right spot.  We want a natural look remember.  A typical brow replacement procedure will consist of about 200 separate hairs.  This number can range quite a bit though.  Some women only need 50 hairs to fill out their brows.  Others will need as many as 400.  As long as you're not on the higher end of this scale, chances are you're looking at about 2 hours worth of surgery.  This really isn't that bad compared to some other cosmetic surgeries.  Your new brows will be quite sensitive for up to about 2 weeks after the surgery.  At this point, the hairs will actually fall out.  Shortly after this, you'll begin to see new hairs coming in.

It won't be too long before you're shaping your very own eyebrows!

Another question that often comes up when any sort of cosmetic surgery is discussed revolves around price.  This can range greatly as a number of different factors need to be considered.  The biggest one being the number of hairs being transplanted.  Generally speaking, the cost of eyebrow transplant surgery is about $3000-$5000.  If you're interested in this procedure, make sure you use a trusted reputable surgeon.  It may cost a bit more but at least it will be done right the first time.
