The terms wallpaper, desktop picture and desktop background refer to an image used as a background on a computer screen, usually for the desktop of a graphical user interface, meaning monitor or LCD flat screen.

"Wallpaper" is the term used in Microsoft Windows before Windows 7 (where it is called the Desktop "Background"), while Mac OS X calls it a "desktop picture" (previously, the term desktop pattern was used to refer to a small pattern that was repeated to fill the screen).

The use of a personalized desktop background is pleasing to many personal computer users. Most sources of desktop backgrounds, or wallpapers require payment or subscription in order for the user to access the required images.

Our desktop wallpapers and background images are free for any visitor to download, save and install on their own computer. This first hubpage is a random sampling of some of the types of wallpapers and backgrounds. In the future we will publish desktop wallpaper background collections that are grouped according to specific groups.
