Introduction to Facebook Marketing

Social Networks like myspace and Facebook provide a great opportunity for companies, including the small business owner, to market products and services directly to specific groups of individuals like never before. This page is designed to provide an tips and an introduction to using FaceBook as a Marketing tool for your business.

There are six main areas of Facebook that provide strong marketing opportunities:

Profile:

This is the center of your Facebook experience and is pretty self explanatory. One of the nice things about the profile page though is that it provides a place where you can post other items - including articles from your website, photos, rss feeds, twitter updates, and links to your Facebook groups and pages.

Also virtually everything you do from adding a friend to posting an article goes to your friend feed - that all your friends can read and act on.

Groups:

Facebook Groups are just what they sound like, it is an opportunity to create a fan club for your band, a user group for your products, or pretty much anything else you can think of.

Pages:

Facebook Pages are mini-websites that are great if you are looking for an on-facebook place to promote your businesses. They are like stripped down groups with no community functions.

Advertising:

This is where Facebook gets exciting! You can design ads based on where someone works, what their interests are, even age and location.

Applications:

Applications are a more advanced and much more expensive way to market virally on Facebook, but can be extremely powerful if you have the resources. These are little programs that encourage people to share them with others and can be designed for pure entertainment, to deliver advertising, or other purposes.
