Facebook is the miracle that keeps some of my friendships together. It allows you to look up people you haven't talked to in ages, talk to people from all over the country, and you can let people know how you are doing too.

I use it to communicate with my friends who go to different colleges, but even my friends who live in the same dorm, down the hall I frequently communicate with via facebook. It's a time-saver and it's fun. The applications allow you to be more creative than email in expressing yourself with your friends.

One of my biggest reasons that I use it is that I was in treatment for depression and OCD. The bonds you form in that kind of situation are different than the friendships you form anywhere else... and losing those friendships can be too hard to bear. In that way, facebook helps me keep in contact with those people who helped me through the hardest times in my life.

It doesn't really matter who you want to keep in contact with, pretty much everyone has a facebook and if you decide you want to keep in contact with friends that way, then you all make facebook accounts and everything is OK. I've used other sites like facebook... myspace, for example, but I don't like it nearly as much. Facebook is the best way to stay in contact with the people you care about but don't want to pick up the phone and call everyday.
