After my last post about the most popular Facebook emoticons, many people asked me how to insert the emotes into their dialogue when they are using Facebook chat. The answer is that it couldn’t be simpler! There are many emotions on offer, and they represent lots of different things.

Facebook chat emoticons were not the first set of smileys on the net, however, just like their website is hip, crisp and plain, their smileys are known for being some of the coolest ones on the web!

Do you know a secret that nobody else knows? The Facebook wink emotion is sure to send a lot more meaning than at first glance!

Happy eyes: ^_^

This smiley represents happiness and cuteness! The eyes were made popular by anime characters, and now you can use this grin on FB chat.

Laughing eyes: >:o

What I like to call ‘laughing eyes’ – it’s emoticon which shows you have a sense of humour and you’re a funny person!

Cat smile: :3

A big smile which reminds me of a cat – it’s the cat smile Facebook emoticon!

Grumpy: >:-(

This guy looks like he’s had a bad day and he’s not afraid to tell people about it. The grumpy or annoyed Facebook emoticon!

Sad: :( or :-(

Oh dear…they had to include a couple of negative emotions too! Here’s a sad face…don’t cry…

Crying emote: :’(

…oh no! You started crying! Broken up with your girlfriend or boyfriend? Got the sack? Let it all out…

Shocked emote: :o or :-o

The shocked smiley is a classic! When you hear that piece of amazing news, you must react with shock!

Glasses emote: 8) or 8-)

Nerds, unite! This is how you do the nerd glasses smilie on Facebook. It looks cool, in a geek-chic sort of way.

These shades aren’t coming off, even if I’m indoors! That’s how cool I am….

Sticking your tongue out has always been a favourite pastime of internet users, and now we can see the tongue emoticon on Facebook!

Woot?!: O.o

A little similar to the shocked emoticon, this emote really brings the WOOT to the conversation!

Dork emote: -_-

When you want to show someone your displeasure, perhaps you should bring out the ‘dork’ emoticon. Whatever, man…

Duhhh emote: :/ or :\

…and if they keep talking rubbish, maybe you should give them a stern face to show that you are really NOT amused!

Devil emote: 3:)

Are you a naughty girl? Have you been a bad boy? Show it off with the devil facebook emoticon!

This turned out to be the face of one of the Facebook developers – and it’s a freaky thing to add to your chats. Try it and see your friends’ reactions!

The newest and the coolest – the waters have become very dangerous since the shark emoticon first showed up!
