64Facial aging is something that will take place at a certain time of your life. It can be premature aging, which is terrible, or it can be healthy facial aging, which in some cases can look good on you.Face aging depends on many factors like heredity and the way we treat our skin. The first signs of facial aging are dehydration losing skin’s elasticity and expression wrinkles. The most common wrinkles are the ones around your eyes, lips and forehead.
Obviously, each part of our body ages in different way but the most exposed areas are the ones which have a greater contact with the sun and air. Our face is the most exposed part of our body with these elements but it also plays the role of a business card so everyone tries to keep it as beautiful as possible.
How The Face Ages?
To the surprise of many people, the loss of fat and sun exposure play a bigger role than gravity in aging the face, according to a study presented today at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Plastic Surgery 2004 conference in Philadelphia.
"For hundreds of years, everyone has believed that the fat on the face is one confluent mass, which eventually gets weighed down by gravity, creating sagging skin," said Dr. Joel Pessa, assistant professor of plastic surgery and the study's lead author. "In our studies, however, we were surprised to find that this is not the case; the face is made up of individual fat compartments that gain and lose fat at different times and different rates as we age."
Dr. Pessa said the face resembles a three-dimensional puzzle, with fat divided into distinct units around the forehead, eyes, cheeks and mouth. Facial aging is, in part, characterized by how these separate compartments change as we grow older.
"The anatomic fat cheek compartment completely changes how we look at facial aging," said Dr. Rod Rohrich, chairman of plastic surgery at UT Southwestern and lead author of the study.
Causes & Effects of Facial Aging:
Face aging can be influenced by our lifestyle because our face gets easily affected by sun, wind, sleep, alcohol and smoking.
- Sun has a very aggressive action on our skin and is the most common thing that leads to premature face aging. Sun radiations increase the production of free radicals which create irreversible damage to our skin so if you want to protect yourself, you always have to use sunscreen.
- Sleeping positions can also causee face aging; a study have recently shown that people who sleep on one side especially the left one can expect to have more wrinkles on their cheeks and chin while people who sleep on their stomach will develop wrinkles on their forehead. Specialists has recommended sleeping on our back and on right side because this way gravity’s action will not be so harmful for our face.
- Smoking also plays important role to make our skin older. A smoker’s face is dry, lacks elasticity and gets wrinkles easier. But premature aging in not only connected to nicotine but with other components of tobacco. Smoking not only takes our skin’s vitality, reduces the collagen levels but also dehydrates it.
What Can We Do?
People who follow a healthy diet have more chances to prevent face aging than those who eat junk food excessively. Studies have shown that you can take care of your skin from inside by taking vitamins, eating more fruits and vegetables moderately and drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Also avoid alcohol because it increases the aging process and affects your sleep so you will get more wrinkles as a result.
- The wrinkles around your eyes can appear at a very young age as the skin in that area is sensitive and soft. You will need to use special eye moisture and always try to remove your eye make up before going to bed.
- It might be better to make facial peeling once a week and use hydrating night creams as you reached to age of 28.Facial peeling stimulates production of new cell that helpts to bring back bightness of skin.

What a great hub. I love your suggestions in the end, especially numbers 6 through 10. I want to have smile lines some day, not frown lines.
