Facial Hair Removal: Men

It is very common for men to have facial hair. It usually occurs later in puberty and makes a boy feel like he is a man. Facial hair is a secondary sex characteristic meaning that it is not part of the reproductive system. Lots of men like to keep their hair on their face while others like to be clean shaven. There are some males that like to keep only part of their facial hair. Everyone has their own preference on how they groom their hair whether they trim it or get rid of it all together. There are many methods for facial hair removal in men and we will be discussing those with you in this article.

Some men are fond of their facial hair and like to grow beards, moustaches, goatees, or sideburns. This basically means that they remove hair from all the other areas of the face except on their upper lip, sides of their cheeks, or on their chin. Whatever preference they have there is still the ritual of removing the unwanted facial hair. There are methods that can remove unwanted facial hair and the most common is shaving. Shaving can be done by using an electric razor, straight razor, or a disposable razor. All of the instruments have a sharp blade that is used to scrape the hair from the face.

Another way to remove unwanted facial hair is by using depilatories. Depilatories are basically a facial hair removal cream, lotion, or gel. They contain a chemical that is called calcium thioglycolate. This chemical breaks down the disulfide bonds in keratin which makes the hair fall off easily or comes off easy when wiped. You can purchase facial hair removal cream over the counter or through a prescription that is obtained from your family physician. Some other types of depilatories will prevent the new hair growth from occurring as quickly as it normally would but with this type of cream you will still be required to shave.

Plucking is used by men as method of removing unwanted facial hair but is more common in women. The reason plucking is more common is women than men is because women normally do not have a whole face full of hair to remove like men do and plucking can be quiet time consuming. With a small patch of hair it can be done very easily and quickly but with a lot of hair it could take you all day to remove the hair. Plucking is done by using tweezers. You take the tweezers and grasp the hair as close to the hair root as possible and jerk it out. This method for removing facial hair can be quiet painful.

Waxing is another method for removing unwanted facial hair in men. This is only a temporary fix so you must repeat it every two to eight weeks. That is not so bad when you think of shaving every day or plucking for long periods of time. Waxing is very easily done by applying a warm wax on the areas of the skin that you want to remove hair. Then you press a paper strip over the wax and press down firmly. Then you rip the paper off and it brings the wax and hair along with it. This is also a painful method of removing unwanted facial hair but it does truly work.

Electrolysis is a popular way to remove facial hair. This can be quiet time consuming and must be performed by a professional. The professional slides a thin metal probe onto each hair follicle and an electric current is delivered which destroys the facial areas that generate hairs. This is a permanent way to get rid of facial hair but sometimes it must be repeated several times in order to get rid of all the hair. Facial hair removal for men is almost the same as women but shaving is much preferred by men.
