  • FarmVille is the most popular application in the history of Facebook.FarmVille was a complete unknown six months ago.. Right now, FarmVille has 62 million users. 22 million people log in everyday.
  • Mark Skaggs, the creator of FarmVille, has worked out that "if you lined up all of 'FarmVille’s' users shoulder to shoulder the line would reach from San Francisco to New York three and a half times. That man clearly has time on his hands.
  • FarmVille players outnumber real farmers in the US by a ratio of 60 to 1. Are real farmers feeling nervous that townies will suddenly turn up en masse to hijack their farms? Apparently not, many of them play FarmVille too, according to the New York Times.

  • It is possible to arrange your crops in some very artistic ways. In fact, there is a website devoted to FarmVille Mona Lisa’s, Farmville NFL emblems (is that really art?) and a complete Simpson's Family. Why not submit some art yourself? Or check out the video below.

  • FarmVille and similar games are big business. Almost $1 billion dollars will be spent on virtual goods (like FarmVille seeds or fuel) this year.
  • On an average day, FarmVille players purchase 500,000 tractors. John Deere, the biggest US manufacturer of real tractors sell around 5000 a year, though they are a little more expensive (and harder to find parking for).
  • A lot of game players buy fuel or seeds. If you buy sweet potatoes half the money goes to non profit organizations in Haiti that support health and education for children. In September 2009 that meant $150,000 dollars a week- $150,000 dollars is enough to feed 250 kids for a year.

  • A recent report from online marketing firm Q Interactive found that 78% of women who play social media games like FarmVille would sign up for a promotion to earn VC (virtual currency).VC lets you buy seeds fuel or decorations for your farm.
  • Only10 percent of women spend real money in their favorite games. Of these nearly half spent between twenty and one hundred dollars.
  • Sometimes, you just have to have that FarmVille Villa and you need it NOW!

  • FarmVille recently announced that it would give away ‘fertilizer’ to players chosen at random. You can’t use it you own farm, only on your neighbors. Fertilized crops grow larger and sparkle. They also give more experience points when harvested. This is as close to real manure as I ever want to be.
  • Super berries are not a myth. They grow quick and give fantastic harvests. The only problem is game makers only let you buy them from the market on very special occasions. The last time was when FarmVille had its 5 millionth sign up.
