Trying to figure out what's hot and what's not is a dilemma at the start of every season. When selecting shoes, stick with the classics this fall - tall riding boots, suede pumps and jewel-tone flats. Then add a pair or two of trend shoes into your rotation.

Here are a few of the top shoe trends.

High heeled oxfords

Menswear-inspired oxfords with high heels are everywhere this season. They come in variety of fabrics, included suede, nubuck and patent. These lace-up shoes can feature stacked or stiletto heels for a little more femininity. Many high-heeled oxfords offer peep-toes or cut-out detailing.

Fringed boots

Call it Bohemian chic or just a throw back to the 70s, but fringed boots are back in all shapes and styles. From ankle boots to the knee-high variety, you can find an array of fringed boots at almost every store.

Plaid shoes

Plaid is a popular fashion choice this fall in skirts, dresses and even shoes. From plaid skimmers to pumps, you can find colorful plaid shoes that you will really love.

Studded booties

Booties (or shooties) are available in all styles and materials this season. One of the most popular options are leather booties which feature studded details. Studs add a little edge to your look without being to harsh.

Until recently, we have talked about high heeled footwear as though it has only been a choice for women to wear publicly. History and recent incidences worthy of social notice respectfully presents the fact that men have worn high heels and they are actively wearing high heels today.

These male heelers, aren't just from the groups labeled with the alternative lifestyles, such as crossdressers, female impersonators, transgendered, gay, or etc. They can also be regular heterosexual men, who have the desire to wear high heels. Some how our social up-bringing didn't include this in our need to understand our fellow-beings. It has all been labeled as perverse and un-manly, when actually it's every bit as manly and normal as it is feminine for women to wear trousers or jeans. So, when you see another hot style of high heels on display, there is probably a man and a woman who wants to wear them. I guess it will be up to the buying power used by either as to which pair the other will get.
