The family room is an area where family typically gathers on a regular basis for activities such as watching television, game playing, and enjoying informal meals, and it is also the ideal place for entertaining guests. Even though the family room is an area that receives a lot of foot traffic, it should be just as well decorated as the rest of the home. Family room decorating can be made easier than ever with wood wall art and other stylish decorating accents. Consider the following ideas for creating a focal point with wood wall art. Your family room will become one of the most stylish rooms in the home, and it will become a favorite place for spending time with family and friends.

Begin with Color

A dramatic focal wall in any room should begin with a backdrop of color. Paint a designated focal wall a color that coordinates well with the space, and consider adding an artistic touch. Sponge painting and rag painting is still as popular as ever, and this easy painting technique is ideal for a family room focal wall. After the first color dries, go over it with a sponge or a rag in a hue that is one or two shades lighter than the first for a subtle effect. Do not be overly picky since no two areas will look exactly alike. You really cannot make a mistake when sponge or rag painting, and the focal wall will have a dimensional look that will be perfect for highlighting wood wall art and other accents that will complete the display.

Wall Pockets and Wood Wall Art

After selecting a large work of wooden art in a design of your choice, select a pair of wall pockets to display alongside. Mount the pockets several inches from both sides of the wooden piece, and make sure they are level or offset at just the right angle. If the focal display is in an area that receives plenty of light, consider filling the wall pockets with bright green air ferns, or insert plastic liners that will hold soil and small trailing vines. Alternately, select artificial trailing vines and sprigs of dried strawflowers or another attractive and eye-catching variety for the center of each wall pocket. With the right combination of colors it will look absolutely lovely, and this focal wall will automatically draw the eyes inward while creating a stunning family room display.

Mirrors and Wood Decor

When looking for art that can successfully accompany wooden decor, consider a set of beautiful framed mirrors. Select mirrors in frames of your choice, and mount each one an equal distance away from a work of wooden decor. A pair of hexagon framed mirrors can be mounted on both sides of a large work of wooden art, or two large framed mirrors can be placed on both sides. Framed mirrors come in as many styles and sizes and wooden art, and they are an affordable way to brighten up a dark family room wall while helping add an illusion of dimension to the space with a dramatic focal point.

Decorating with Wooden Works of Art and Metal Wall Sculptures

Why says wood and metal do not go well together? Well-chosen wood and metal pieces look outstanding when displayed side-by-side. Begin by selecting wood wall art, and choose metal accent pieces that go well with the theme and the style. Mount them on opposite sides of the wooden piece or along one side for a dramatic and eye-catching family room focal point that is sure to impress.

No matter the art you choose, begin by creating an eye-catching backdrop in which to display it. In addition, search for wood wall art to redesign your family room. Next, select home decor and other accent pieces, and artfully mount each piece to create a stunning display. The family room can look as impressive as any other room in the home, and with a well-designed focal wall it can look absolutely amazing.
