Family Traditions
60Every family has it's special Holiday traditions.
Whether it is special Christmas Pjs, or dying eggs every Easter. I myself love traditions, they bring new memories every year. My family has a few traditions that we have kept through the years.
Valentines day
Every year at valentines day, my dad would get each of the woman in his life a box of Sees' candies. not always the same thing for everyone. Sometimes I would ask for nuts & chews, and sometimes I would get the suckers. But we always looked forward to it. Last year we broke tradition and asked for jewelry instead, but in the end, I kind of wished I had gone with the See's. This year I'm asking for candy. Lol.
St. Patrick's day
On St. Patricks' day we have our customary Corned Beef and Cabbage. I love the corned beef, but I skip the cabbage, tastes like sauerkraut to me, and I cannot stand sauerkraut. We wear our green and dad drinks his green beer and Irish coffee. Did you know that in Ireland that green is not a lucky color to wear on St Patrick's day? It is actually bad luck in some areas. Orange is what they wear. My moms tradition is to watch QVC and buy anything Irish that catches her eye. Ha ha.
Easter
In our family, My dad and I are the Easter bunny. I dye the eggs, and dad puts the candy in the basket. I have been dying the eggs since I could read, and I suspect it is because no one else wanted the dubious task. I don't mind it so much, but I believe I will pass on the task to my daughter when she learns to read, she already helps me with the eggs that don't need names on them. She loves it, because it makes her feel like a big girl. For a couple of years I also had Faiths pics taken at a Portrait studio, but now that she is in school, I feel like I am a little over loaded with pictures.
Halloween
Every Halloween since my daughter was born I have carved pumpkins and than taken her picture with the pumpkins. Than when she started walking we took her trick or treating. She loves it. Most years she has been a princess, except the first couple of years when we chose for her. Her first year she was a pink kitty, and a pumpkin, her 2nd year she was bedtime bear, and her 3rd Halloween she was a girl pirate. This year we didn't see anything she liked in particular, so we bought some fairy wings, a leotard, a tutu and some fabric paint and stencils and made her a butterfly fairy princess. She said it was one of her favorite costumes ever. Spencer was a Rock star. I used a shirt he had gotten for his birthday and a pair of black pants, and spread blue, purple and silver hair gel through his hair. Everyone thought it was so cute.
Christmas time
Every year My Sister -in-law asks me for cookies, so that is her present. It's nothing fancy, just sugar, gingerbread, and a few other cookies. But My sister just loves it when I make them for her. So I make them for her, my brother and other friends and family. I am not making as many this year, or even giving out as many. But I do at least have to make them for My sister-in-law. Before my Grandma died her tradition was making candy and cookies. She made all kinds, for everybody in the family. I never ate it all. But I miss her making it all. Sometimes if I visited her the whole winter vacation I would even get to help her. I miss those days. Coming to her house was also something we did every Christmas. We would come to her house and as soon as everyone was there we would open gifts, clean up the mess afterward and than eat dinner. Grandma was a great cook. though there was one thing I didn't care for and that was her fried baloney. But she didn't make that too often. These days we go to my Uncles house to open presents and have dinner. It is nice, but I will always miss the coziness of my Grandmas house. My other tradition is getting our family picture done every year. It gives a lifeline to how the kids have grown and how much we have changed or stayed the same. My parents only did family photos if there was a good deal. So really only 2 times. I wanted to make sure my kids had some nice pictures to reminisce with.
Okay well I hope you enjoyed reading about my family traditions, and maybe made you remember any special traditions you had as a kid.

Thank you. Dad is a pretty into it kind of person, when it comes to his kids. I think he must have learned it from his parents. My grandpa died long before I came along, but my dads whole family are way into the holidays. my moms family are to. but they have people all over the place, so it is hard for everyone to get together. And now that my moms dad isn't to healthy anymore, he doesn't travel anymore, and we just found out he has lung cancer. So sad because he hasn't smoked in 60 years, and my grandma isn't a smoker, so it wasn't her fault. We don't think he is gonna be around to much longer, all he does anymore is sleep and eat, and his memory comes and goes. I hope that we can go up and visit before too long, he should at least get to see Spencer before he dies, even if he does not remember in the end.
I love the new picture of Spencer on your profile.
Thanks.
Now this hubs makes me a little sad, as My Grandpa has now passed, and without seeing Spencer in person.

Your family is so beautiful Cherish :). I always thought your dad was a real family guy and it is great how he wanted to participate in those type of traditions. My dad was not really that way when we were growing up, he paid the bills but always wanted to do his own thing. I always wish my dad had been more the type who wanted to buy his daughter's Valentines candy or help dye Easter eggs. One time he took us trick or treating and he acted like that was the end of the world. Your dad is a very nice guy.
