Family Guy
Family Guy is an animated TV series created by Seth MacFarlane. The comedy show centres around a family living in Quahog, Rhode Island. It's main characters are the Griffin family, with Peter Griffin perhaps the most involved of these characters.
The Show
Now in its 5th season, with seasons 6 and 7 already scheduled to arrive on tv within the next two years, Family Guy has become one of the most popular animated series on tv. However, the show has actually been cancelled twice since first airing in 1999 and was only resumed after strong DVD sales. The show uses many cutaway jokes that rarely add to the storyline and many of its storylines are parodies of tv shows and movies.
Movie
Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story was released in 2005 as a straight-to-dvd movie. The film focused on Stewie and the search for his real father. The movie was shown on tv but due to the content of the movie it had to be heavily edited.
Awards
Emmies: 6 nominations and winning twice (in 2000 for Outstanding Voice-over, and in 2002 for Outstanding Music and Lyrics)
Annies: 9 nominations, winning twice in 2006
Golden Reel Award: 3 nominations, winning once
Criticism
Family guy has come under criticism from many different sources. The show has been panned by certain tv critics, especially in entertainment weekly.
Many criticisms have stemmed from the arguments that Family Guy is very similar to the Simpsons and also that it relies on jokes unrelated to actual plot. The latter of these two arguments being made clearly in a two part episode of South Park, "Cartoon Wars".
The Griffin Family
Peter: The father of the family and very often the centre of major storylines. A low-intellect character that gets into many different crazy scenarios. Voiced by Seth MacFarlane
Chris: Son of Peter and Lois, very low-intellect, goofy schoolboy.Voiced by Seth MacFarlane.
Stewie: Son of Peter and Lois. A baby that talks, but only really listened to and taken seriously by Brian. Plans of world domination and evilness in earlier episodes and always with a sophisticated mindset and high intellect.Voiced by Seth MacFarlane.
Other Characters
Glen Quagmire: Quagmire is the sexed-crazed next door neighbour of the Griffin's. He is best friend with Peter, although Peter has no idea that Quagmire is obsessed with his wife, Lois.
His most memorable catch phrase is "giggity giggity giggity".
Voiced by Seth MacFarlane
Cleveland Brown: Cleveland is Peter's neighbour and friend. He was originally married to Loretta Brown but they divorced after Quagmire and Loretta had an affair. He has one son, Cleveland Jr, who has ADD. Voiced by Mike Henry
Mayor Adam West: Quahog's paranoid mayor, voiced by the Adam West of the old Batman tv shows.

One of my all time favorite tv shows. I never miss an episode on Fox or on Adult Swim. It's just too funny! I like the episode of short stories when peter and his friends were all kids.
