MAGDALENA CANTORIA

Magdalena Cantoria, a Filipino botanist and pharmacist who is a noted /known for her research in the morphology, physiology, and biochemistry of drug plants, in particular agar, rauwolfia, datura, mint and Piper species. She was born on October 25, 1924

  • 1951 - She is a recipient of Phi Sigma Awards for marked distinction in biology.,
  • 1954 - Edwin Leigh Newcomb Award in pharmacognosy given by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education ·
  • 1962 - Edwin Leigh Newcomb Award (for research on the growth and development of Daturia strasmodium L.) ·
  • 1977 - Most Outstanding Phi Sigman

LEDIVINA V. CARINO

Ledivina Carino was born on April 22, 1942. She has been recognized for her outstanding works and accomplishment in the fields of Public Administration, Political Science and Sociology. This spanned a range of issues and approaches in development, from local autonomy to national governance, from bureaucratic corruption to the imperatives of the civil service, and from participatory development models and approaches to a focus on the elite.

VERONICA F. CHAN

Veronica F. Chan was born on March 24, 1933. She has big contribution and recognized for her pioneering and outstanding scientific achievements in Virology and Immunology. This includes the new knowledge that has been applied in medical practice, and for international standing as scientist, sharing her expertise with the World Health Organization and the health institutions of the countries. As one of the earliest pioneers in Philippine virology and immunology, she liberally opens her storehouse of knowledge to all. Her fruitful labors have brought improvements in policy, management of severe cases of viral infections as well as their prevention and control.

JOSEFINO COMISO

Josefino Comiso is a Filipino physicist working at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center studying global warming in the Arctic. Josefino Comiso was the first person to discover a recurring polynya in the Cosmonaut Sea, south of the Indian Ocean. A polynya is a semi permanent area of open water in sea ice.

MERCEDES B. CONCEPCION

Mercedes Concepcion was born on June 10, 1928. Her study of population growth in the Philippines has been a significant input in the development, monitoring and evaluation of our national population policy and program. She has been recognized for her big contributions in the field of population research and policy. Her pioneering research and continuing work on Philippine as well as Southeast Asian Demographic processes is recognized internationally.

JOSE CRUZ

Doctor Jose Cruz was born on September 17, 1932. He has been recognized for his scientific and technological contributions to electrical engineering through the development of several methods for the sensitivity analysis of dynamic systems with respect to parameters variations; establishment of the concept comparison sensitivity matrix that captures the effect of feedback on altering the influence of parameter variations on system output errors in multivariable feedback system; and the maintenance of system optimality for a range parameter values even when the feedback control structure is fixed.

Dr. Cruz has immensely contributed to the improvement of the quality of engineering education in the Philippines through: the Master of Engineering programs in several consortia of engineering schools he helped develop; the placement of many ESEP scholars in Ph.D. sandwich programs in the US; the arrangement for short visits and observations to the US by officials and scholars from the engineering faculty of various universities in the Philippines:·

LOURDES CRUZ

Doctor Lourdes Cruz is a Filipino Biochemist who has made scientific contributions to the biochemistry field of conotoxins, in particular the toxins of the venom of the marine snail Conus geographus. Lourdes Cruz documented the biochemical characterization of the homologous highly toxic monomeric peptides with internal disulfide bonds including: Conotoxin GI, Conotoxin GIA and Conotoxin GII. Lourdes Cruz has helped develop conotoxins for the purpose biochemical probes for examining the activities of the human brain.

CONRADO S. DAYRIT

Dr. Conrado Dayrit is a medical practitioner, researcher, professor in clinical pharmacology and cardiology who was born on May 31, 1919. He has authored/co-authored more than 70 scientific articles published here and abroad. He also edited/chaired the First and Second Edition of Drug Index, 1965, 1967, and the First Edition of the Philippine Formulary, 1978. He is also a recipient of the Republic Cultural Heritage Award he is also thrice recipient of First Prize in Research Award for basic sciences and a First Prize in Research Award for clinical research from the Manila Medical Society. In 1977, the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science presented him the Gregorio Y. Zara award in Applied Science.

EMERITA DE GUZMAN

Dr. Emerita de Guzman has an outstanding contribution of is her series of work on the growth and development in vitro of the makapuno coconut embryo. As a result of this effort, she has revolutionized the old ratio of the makapuno-bearing nuts in the tropics which produce only 3-5 makapuno nuts in every receme bearing 14-19 nuts. Dr. de Guzman produced 100 percent all makapuno-bearing in the receme. He has received recognition for these significant studies:

Dr. Geminiano De Ocampo is known and the most notable ophthalmologist in the country. He introduced corneal transplantation in the Philippines and designed a corneal dissector. He also established the De Ocampo Eye Hospital, the first eye hospital in the country for these achievements,

ROLANDO DE LA CRUZ

Rolando de la Cruz is a Filipino Scientist and Inventor. Heinvented DeBCC an anti-cancer skin cream made from cashew nuts and other local herbs from the Philippines. Rolando de la Cruz's cream combats basal cell carcinoma or skin cancer without causing any side effects.MOLE REMOVERRolando dela Cruz has developed an ingenuous formula that could easily remove deeply grown moles or warts from the skin without leaving marks or hurting the patient, in 2000. The formula was extracted from cashew nut (Annacardium occidentale), which is common in the Philippines. His formula won for dela Cruz a gold medal in International Invention, Innovation, Industrial Design and Technology Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur in September 2000. In March 1997, dela Cruz established RCC Amazing Touch International Inc., which runs clinics engaged "in a non-surgical removal of warts, moles and other skin growths, giving the skin renewed energy and vitality without painful and costly surgery."

DOCTOR FE DEL MUNDO

Doctor Fe Del Mundo is a Filipino Inventor who was known and credited with studies that lead to the invention of an improved incubator and a jaundice relieving device. Her love and dedication for pediatrics drove her to work in rural areas, where she inspired hospitals and health practitioners to put up various pediatric institutions. She was born in Manila on November 27, 1911 and the sixth of eight children. She was the epitome of a mother in all her work

  • In 1940 She received a M.A. in bacteriology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,·

  • Since 1941, she has contributed more than 100 articles to medical journals in the U.S., Philippines and India. ·
  • In 1966, Fe Del Mundo received the Elizabeth Blackwell Award for "outstanding service to mankind". ·
  • In 1977, Fe Del Mundo received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for outstanding public service. ·
  • She also received the 15th International Congress of Pediatrics award as most outstanding pediatrician and humanitarian in 1977.·
