Suddenly we are in the month of July and the summer movie season is in full swing. As we sit through Iron Man, Batman, and Wanted, we should remember the great legacy of films that came before them, and the kick-ass last lines that left us sitting in the theater with the credits rolling and our mouths open. Here are my top favorites:

- Gone With the Wind (1939): Where great last lines started. After four hours of audiences watching the trials and tribulations of the saucy Scarlett O'Hara, she is left alone and dumped on the great red stairs of her Atlanta Mansion. The music swells, her bright, tear-stained eyes look toward the heavens and she says, ..Tara!...Home. I'll go home, and I'll think of some way to get him back! After all, tomorrow is another day!" Classic!

- Sunset Boulevard (1950): The final line of the innovative Sunset Boulevard was delivered by Gloria Swanson's incomparable Norma Desmond, "...You see, this is my life. It always will be! There's nothing else - just us - and the cameras - and those wonderful people out there in the dark. All right, Mr. De Mille, I'm ready for my close-up." (I still get the chills when I see it!)

- Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986): Fast forward thirty plus years to a young Matthew Broderick staring at the camera after teaching us how to skip school and saying, "You're still here? It's over! Go home. Go!" Oooooooh Yeaaaaaaa.

- American Beauty (1999): The last year of the decade made us all stand up and take notice of Kevin Spacey when he blew everyone away with his honest and heartbreaking performance in American Beauty. His voice over at the end of the film ends as he describes death, with the great and ominous ending, "You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry: you will someday."

- Spider Man (2002): I don't care what the next two Spider Man movies did to the franchise, I will always love the amazing first film and the awesome ending of Peter Parker leaving Mary Jane behind to fulfill his destiny: "Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: 'With great power comes great responsibility.' This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man."

- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003): We were swash-buckled, boarded, and taken by storm by this super fun and super addictive ride-turned-movie, and I think I actually squealed with delight when Johhny Depp finished by singing to himself, "And really bad eggs, drink up me hearties yo ho!"

So remember, fans of The Incredible Hulk, when you are scratching your heads wondering why you paid almost ten dollars to see that movie, that there are some films that are worth your time, from the opening title to the famous last words.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who still remembers Ferris Bueller.
