Daniel Hale Williams was born January 18, 1856 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He was an African-American Surgeon-in-Chief of Freedman's Hospital in Washington, DC. In addition to organizing the hospital, Dr. Williams also established a training school for African-American nurses at the facility.. He worked hard to create more hospitals for African Americans. He died of a stroke on August 4, 1931 aged 73.
