The origins of fancy dress partys.

Costume partys in the U.S.A) are very popular during the Carnival season, such as the Mardi Gras and also very popular in the United States around Halloween, when teenagers and adults play trick or treat..

The origins of these partys can be traced to masked balls of the 18th Century period although Fancy Dress parties of the modern kind are a largely Victorian conception..

In Japan, costume partys are closely related to the cosplay phonemna. Cosplay is short for "costume play."Cosplay can be seen at public events such as video game shows, and dedicated cosplay parties.

Below are a few example's of out-fits that can be worn.

Superman has always been one of my favorites, but I also like witches, cavemen, butterflies and nurses (my wife was a registered nurse.)

When it comes to clothing Iðunn i wish i was a girl as girls have so much more sexy and colorful styles compared to guys...

I agree. I think guys get totally shafted in that department, most of the time. It's getting a bit better maybe, but not much.

I mean, it's a free country and men can dress up, but yeah, you get labelled.

I saw this mermaid costume in tulle once in a dancers' shop. It was gorgeous, in greens and aquas. Unbelieveably expensive though and ahem... what would I do with it? :p

well the main problem with it, even if one used it, it had that uneven length 'skirt', well more like a ballet skirt, you know but parts of it were long. I suspected even then one would trip all over it and rip it.

it was made to be stood in, not actually used, I would guess. :p

A nip n tuck could make it bearable n wearable me thinks!!

Many womans clothes especially from older times were all made to be stood in..I could not stand that!!

yeah, cut it off and hem it to a mini. :)

I love vintage women's clothes though. Do you remember the 1940s thing when the skirt was skin tight to the knees, then flared after to mid-calf? they look great!

I had one once, they are almost impossible to walk in. little short steps.
