In mid-2000, I returned to USA after five years in Australia and brought my Thai cat with me (of course!). Fortunately, I also brought 8 cases of Fancy Feast, manufactured by Purina according to Austra;ian specifications, as my cat wouldn't eat the garbage on the American market. All pet food, in Australia, is made for human consumption - the tuna is Albacore steak and the salmon is red (not pink). I trashed more than 100 cans of cat food while weaning Lizzie to an American diet and have, in the past two weeks, had a "thing" with Purina re a bag of "green" dry food that came with some green larva (webs and all) living in it. I blame the veterinarians in this (stupid) country for not insisting on quality pet food. Everyone knows, don't they, that Hill's gives a percentage of sales profit to the veterinary practice which sells it? I was married to a vet, for 5 years, and have a step-son who is a manager with Hill's so, you may be sure, this is a fact. Every pet owner should nag the DVM's and send e-mails to their House Rep's. The, only, decent cat food I've seen here is Sheba but, compared with Nestle-Purina they (Mars) are a small operation. Yes - I'm a "grouch" on this subject as both my cats have IBD (Crohn's disease).
adqpatt,
Welcome to the states! I'm impressed that you know more about pet food than our State-side DVMs. Shame on our pet food industry and the vets who either fail to learn good nutrition or think of only the perks from selling low quality pet foods.
Listen Public,
Read what Abqpatt has written in the post above this one!
