THE PRESS ROOM IN THE WHITE HOUSE
The press room is crowded with people scurrying around. Many are on their cell phones, while others are standing around discussing the events of the day. The President is not scheduled to speak on this particular day, so the press-core is quite relaxed, per their standard. Suddenly the door opens and in walks the President’s Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs strolls to the podium straightens the microphone and begins to speak.
ROBERT GIBBS: Everyone, please take your seats.
The press-core scampers quickly for their assigned seats’. Mr. Gibbs waits for all to be seated and announces.
ROBERT GIBBS: I have a surprise for everyone; President Obama will be here shortly to speak.
ABC REPORTER: Is the President speaking really a surprise?
ROBERT GIBBS: It is when it’s not on your schedule. (Gibbs laughs) I thought that was funny, come on, liven up.
CBS Reporter: Are you trying to warm up the crowd?
ROBERT GIBBS: No, butI see you’ve noticed that the temperature of the Press Room has been lowered; we all have to do our part.
NBC REPORTER: It feels colder in the Press Room.
ROBERT GIBBS: A hot cup of coffee can take care of that!
PRESIDENT OBAMA ENTERS
The doors open and President Obama walks in. On his way to the podium, he stops to shake hands with everyone in the first row. Finally he reaches the podium.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I’ll take it from here Bob.
ROBERT GIBBS: To himself. He called me, Bob!
Gibbs relinquishes his position at the microphone and the President takes control of it.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I hope my surprise appearance didn’t throw anyone off their game; I’ll start by making a statement.
PRESIDENT OBAMA SPEAKS
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Today we grieve for our fellow American’s at FortHood. The individual that committed this act shall be brought to justice. An Army Major is in custody at the Fort’s Hospital, he is expected to recover (praise Allah). A full investigation will be conducted by the Army and I will come to fully understand exactly what happened. At this time I will take questions on what ever topic you choose.
ROBERT GIBBS: I have a microphone in my hand, see. Raise your hand and I will hand you the microphone so everyone can hear you. Just tell me who I should hand the microphone to, Mr. President.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I always do it the same way, Bob.
ROBERT GIBBS: He called me Bob again; I can’t wait to tell the wife.
QUESTION TIM E
PRESIDENT OBAMA: CNN in the second row.
CNN REPORTER: The shooting was a horrible thing; how is the Army coping with it?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: As you all know, Michelle and I went to FortHood and met many of the soldiers. They are handling things as professionals.
MSNBC in the third row….. No Bob; I said the third row.
MSNBC REPORTER: I want you to know you were a true patriot, the way you handled things. How did Michelle take this dastardly happening?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Thanks for asking about Michelle. She is doing just fine and even visited the Major to make sure he is being taken care of properly, and he is.
MAXNEWS REPOTER: Why are you worried about the Major, there are at least fifty witnesses that say he did it. Is it because he is a Muslim?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I don’t recognize you; what station do you represent?
MAXNEWS REPORTER: I represent MAXNEWS, and I ……………..
PRESIDENT OBAMA: So I can’t be seen on TV answering your question! Guards, please remove that man.
NEWSMAX REPORTER: You aren’t allowed to do that Mr. President
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Who is the President; you or me?
NEWSMAX REPORTER: Of course you are, sir.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: That’s what I thought; remove him guards!
FOX REPORTER: (Shouting!) Excuse me Mr. President, every TV station hear has their cameras running.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I don’t think that episode will be shown on television.
MSNBC REPORTER: I have no idea what episode you speak of sir.
ABC, CBS, and CNN REPORTER’S: We weren’t rolling Mr. President.
FOX REPORTER: We WERE, Mr. President.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: That’s no problem: if FOX is the only one, oh well…..
PBS REPORTER: What can be learned from the situation at FortHood, so the children can be taught properly?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: That’s what I’m all about, education. Next question, forth row, MSNBC. No Bob, the other forth row.
MSNBC REPORTER; Are your children being their usual inquisitive selves?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Thank you so much for asking; we try to keep them away from things like this. In the back by the coffee table, FOX NEWS.
FOX NEWS: Mr. President, I was wondering why you haven’t called the shooter at Fort Hood a terrorist; and why you haven’t come to a final decision on the troop level you will add and when, in Afghanistan?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: That’s quite a mouthful; I’ll answer your questions. I do answer everyone’s question, including those of FOX.
ROBERT GIBBS: We’re out of time, Mr. President.
FOX NEWS: Will you answer my questions, Mr. President?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I have to hurry, the dog needs walking, I love that. Oh, your questions. I’m thinking things over. Bob, bring your gloves.
The President and Robert Gibbs leave The Press Room.
FOX REPORTER TO MEMBERS OF THE PRESS: I still have a tape.
ALL OTHER TV REPORTERS: Big deal, our viewers will not believe what’s on FOX.

why isn't he being charged with 14 murders, including the unborn baby? Plus, no one is talking about the Hague Conventions. These "soldiers" were mostly medical officers who are supposedly protected during time of war? The guy thought Muslims should be conscientious objectors, so, why did he stay in? he was in about 18 yrs. He could have easily not re-enlisted. Just a hypocrite jihadist.

I've been in a situation slightly sinilar to what you suggest. I was robbed at knife point, called the police (they were terrible), went to the station and looked at mug shot, I didn't see the guy.
Two days later the police called and wanted me to come in, they caught a guy I might be able to identify. I was two feet from thee guy and lunged at him. THEN, they put him behind a glass window for me to identify him. He was wearing my fraternity ring, I had NO doubts.
I asked the detective if I could go into the room with him,alone, just five minutes. He said; "I wish I could do it."
They brought him out and he said; "Identify me and I'll kill you." I told him; "if I see you outside, you're a dead man." I was never notified of a trial.
Harvey--there are so many problems with our system of criminal justice. At least the guy who robbed you was--probably--an American citizen unlike the Gitmo terrorists.

Yes he was, kind of. He was from Puerto Rico, only here two years. Growing up in the Bronx, I was was robbed a few times. I've had guns and knives pulled on me, been shot at with a bow and arrow and arms held while beaten with a baseball bat at 9. Revenge was always sweet.
In college I was shot at with a rifle, and a guy tried to run me over. They had a great reason, I'm Jewish.
I don't carry any hard feeling, it's in the past.
A bit dissapointed as I missed the details of the sad event at Fort Hood and was looking for more information pleased that a hubpage writer was providing details. (This article is on the Featured Topics Category and Easily Found)
Ethically, another press conference should have been the blunt of jokes or maybe just Mr. Gibbs himself as press secretary.
I do know that there were twelve people about to deploy and be sent home after serving their country until this deraged doctor took matters into his own hands. Mind you President Obama was not at the scene of the bizarre incident.
Yet someone in the hubpage community use twelve lives with families as a platform of jokes on the President. Lighten Up. The President has made enough speeches for another one to have been chosen.

This was written as a joke, which this administration is. It's really strane that the media (except FOX never calls this pig, a terrorist.
Big deal if he shouts "Allah Akbar" as he shoots. The President doesn't want to rush things beforethe facts are known. Didn't Obama rush to call the Cambridge Police names when he said; "the police acted stupidly." What about all the bills that have to be rushed through.

At the Washington rally TV stations were reporting 500-700 people attended. The D.C. Police believed it was 10,000. Whom do you believe. Don't forget most of the "facts" coming out of the White House are inflated.
They said the Stimulus Bill saved 460 teaching jobs in North Chicgo, Illinois. They only have 290 teachers.

I grew p poor, across the street from Yankee Stadium. My father taught me to never be in the shape he was in. I have never missed any payment because I plan. If I can't afford it; I don't deserve it.
I wrote this article as political satire, and yes I no longer am a Centrist when it comes to B.O. He is doing everythinghe can to ruin our great nation. I don't know who he listens to on economics, but it is everything you learn NOT to do in Econ 101. I guess you haven't taken that. Some information for you, redistribution of wealth is communism.
Tony, I really didn't mean to offend you, only making a small joke there. However, I do see a lot of "Obama hating". Most of what you quoted there is more or less politics in our country and unfortunately has been for quite some time, as in the rich not paying their taxes (but they'd come after us in a heart beat). There also has been a lot of Republicans caught not paying their taxes. And if you check the internet Van Jones did indeed denounce communism before it became public and in writing.
I was actually watching Fox for a while last night and Geraldo said something that summed everything up. He was talking about the trials being held in New York and stated that it's just another thing for the Democrats and Republicans to fight about. He stated that had Bush decided to hold the trials in New York City, everything would have been flipped just opposite. Had that happened all of the Republicans would have been for it and all of the Democrats against. I think he is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
As an independent, I'm sure sick of watching both parties take a side only because it's the opposite side of the other party. Obama says the trials will be in New York City. Okay, I'm a Democrat and so I support this. Okay, I'm a Republican and so I object to this. Can't anyone think for themselves any more?
I think for myself, and even if W. had tried to bring these terrorists to NYC I would not have supported his decision. Though I voted for W. twice, he was not a fiscally conservative republican and I disagreed with many of his decisions. After 9-11, the ONLY thing I cared about was being kept safe, because if we are all dead, nothing else matters too much. W. kept ALL OF US safe for 7 years.

Sheri, I wasn't actually referring to you or the public as a whole, but to our politicians, i.e. Congress men & women and Senators. You have to believe when it is so evenly divided, that they are ONLY following their party lines, otherwise a few of them at least, while thinking for themselves, would stray the other way. And bear in mind I'm speaking of the Democrats as well as the Republicans here.
That was actually one argument against Bush, was that they used terrorism and the fear of it to control the people. Not my stated opinion necessarily, but one of the arguments against his administration. I do wonder how much Bush kept us safe and how much was just dumb luck. What you call redistribution of wealth, I call fairness in economic policies. When a woman has to work two jobs to support her kids, I believe something is broken in the system. I'm all for a man that comes from nowhere and makes something out of nothing but I'm not for the man who steps and breaks the back of others to get there.

I am sure there would be people willing to aid in your relocation as long as you are willing to renounce your American citizenship. My father worked two jobs totaling twenty hours a day, taking a penny from the gov't. would have been an embarrassment. That is the way America was built.
Why are families on welfare for generations? Welfare was designed to be given to people needing help. They were to pick themselves up in 2-3 years and get off welfare. Man has that changed, and not for the better.
It is now designed to keep people poor and under gov't control for life. What productivity does society achieve from this.

That indeed was a complaint I did hear about Bush by many, but wasn't necessarily my opinion. I tend to take in information, listen to it, and make up my own mind. I haven't made up my mind either way on the one about Bush's administration controlling Americans with the fear of terror. I do believe it was used during the presidential election for that purpose, however.
I want to mention here that the man (and I use the term loosely) who performed his act of terror on one of our bases, was in fact sending out red flags every where, and under Bush's watch also. It certainly was a break down in our country under both administrations that he wasn't stopped before he got to this point. However, I don't think you can blame either Bush or Obama for that break down, as the President of the United States, whoever he is, is not personally looking into reports such as this, but are depending on agencies below them to do it. The fact that he was overlooked for that period of time was horrible, and I don't think the deaths of these people and the tragedy that their families have suffered should be USED to try to attack Obama once again. Seems terribly unfair to use those involved.
I still think it is perhaps dumb luck that we haven't had a bigger, larger scale terror attack in the United States since 911. I myself didn't feel any safer under Bush's administration than I do under Obama's.
In case I haven't mentioned it lately, I'm still sick of both our Democrat and Republican politicians, and their childish, bipartisan behavior while our country is suffering so.

This is a Democratic standard. You can't speak badly about Obama, and look what they did to Palin.
Under Bush we foiled a few terrorist acts, Obama won't even use the word terrorist.
Picking on people for the sake of picking on them was actually a reference, once again, to gay rights, one of the few ways that I would consider myself agreeing with liberals.
I wasn't actually on hub pages when Bush was President and after hearing people say it was all right for the liberals to bad mouth Bush, but they didn't like Obama being bad mouthed, I searched "Bush" and tried to look up some old hubs.
I did find a few that were talking this way, such as a smart comment about "Georgie". I didn't like Bush, but thought this was rude behavior and probably, more importantly, took away from the point they were trying to make. If people would stick to the issues, instead of this sort of childish behavior, either Republican or Democrat, something might actually get done. By the way, I feel the same way about Palin. I'm not a big fan and don't feel at the moment she would make a good president (my opinion could change down the line). However, I don't think people should make fun of or bad mouth her either. They are only showing their own immaturity.
I feel the same way about Obama. The latest, he "bowed to low" over seas. Really! What is that about! Can't they think of anything better to critize him for?
There will be more terrorist attacks foiled. Many of the same people who were in charge of this, still are in charge and I'm sure won't change their behavior because they're working under a different president. I'm sure we all realize Bush wasn't actually out there searching for information about any possible terroristic activity in our country, but rather different agencies were. Those same agencies are still in force and performing the same jobs today.

Do you remember a time in our system where only the man had to work? For many families, that's not even close to being possible nowadays. So it's not the system itself that failed but the perversion of it that had corrupted it. And you speak like only the poor had made horrible decisions. Bad decisions were made from top to bottom. But just like the rich get a break when they make bad decisions, so should the poor. And unlike the rich, the poor don't get golden parachutes when they make poor decisions, they get to live on the street.

I'm not asking you to pay for anything. I'm asking for fairness.So yes, there should be laws to protect workers wages and protect fairness in the system. The same way that Government gives increases to their employees to compensate for inflation, so should the private sector. And If your company made huge profits, the workers that helped you make those profits should participate in the benefits of these profits not just the CEO and a few top executives. And what about those crazy fees and interests that the banking industry has been slamming their customers with. With these practices, many have had chewing gums that ended up costing them hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Our market got so free that it literally got out of control and many got away with behavior you could consider outright criminal. And I haven't talked about the insurance industry yet who has profited on the sickness, death and has been a private taxing industry. We don't want the government to take our money but we sure don't mind when Insurance CEOs and agents do.
And I was forgetting.
On the light side: I never mentioned you being on my back but I do have a bad back that I got from serving in the military.

I'm grateful and proud of your service. With my MS I'm sure we could have an interesting conversation, but I pray you don't have over 40 symptoms you suffer from.
Do you forget what capitalism is? That is what made this country great. When you speak of "golden parachutes;" do you realize how few get them? Of course the gov't. gives raises, those are our tax dollars. A private company can't give a raise when they are losing money. The gov't. won't go out of business, but the company. Just print more money, like Obama does. Wait for the inflation and more unemployment sets in. The African-American community now has more than 15% unemployment. Will you vote for him again?
The banking industry gave loans to people whom they shouldn't have, under pressure. Frank, Dodd and Pelosi led the way. The interest charges I think are crazy and should be lessened, but people have to take some responsibility for their mistakes.
If people think the rates are unfair, don't borrow. The interest rates will come down when the companies get less business.
Read some history of economics. Obama is doing what has been proven not to work. Bush failed to keep a close watch on what was happening.

Harvey, this hub would be much more funny if it didn't smack of the truth. I am sickened by the attitude Barry has toward all our military people and all religions--other than Muslim. Keep telling it like it is. If the naysayers would watch Fox for a change, they might be surprised by what ACTUAL reporting looks and sounds like. Thanks again!!!!
