Fantasy Writing or Writing Creatively

Fantasy writing life

Much of a writer's life is about fantasy. We fantasise words, pictures, stories, characters, murders, other worlds and happy endings. Even if we never write what is called fiction, we inhabit worlds of our own making. We are fascinated by words and the pictures and problems that they produce. I find that words sometimes have a life of their own and perhaps that is in itself a fantasy.

Fantasy is an important element of every writer's makeup - how else would we come up with characters and situations, how else would we be able to make thirty keyword loaded articles on the same subject even remotely interesting?

We have to have a sense of the magical in order to write anything that is worth reading and for me that involves at least a certain amount of fantasy.

Hi Britishbird,

We are a different lot. When you think about it, a writer combines creativity with incredible self-discipline, focus, and logic. Without these qualities, writing would be hard going.

I guess you are right. I am always using my imagination when I write my children's stories. Maybe one day I will get brave and see if I can get any of them published. When I was at university I took Creative Writing modules. I am also involved in a writers club and at the same time learning this exciting topic. I found a fabulours course called Nick Dawes Writing Course you can check it out on the internet if you like.

Excellent site! I found it because I have written a fantasy/scifi novel titled Antiquity Calais: Standing at Armageddon. I've posted a few chapters at my hub site, and would be most pleased if you could give me your reaction.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, writers do live in kind of a fantasy world.

My favorite thing about writing is that the mundane and everyday occurrences do become a kind of fantasy--if a writer is a person on whom nothing is lost, then the average becomes fantastic, and life becomes a fantasy.

Great thoughts!

I have a very vivid fantasy life - in fact I dream entire books and in the morning I think "I've got to get that down on paper." By the time I make it to my computer it's a wispy memory.

I beleive what you write here is true.  fantasy is the oldest genre in the world and I believe it is a part of every writer as well.  Fantasy is incorporated into all aspects of our lives.  I hope as a writer myself that I can capture the essence of what you wrote in this post.  I want to capture the"magic" in my writing.
