Farm Town Tips
91Are You Addicted to Farm Town?
Farm Town is a fun Facebook game by a company called SlashKey, that anyone with a Facebook account can play. This hub is dedicated to tips and helps for Farm Town beginners and game lovers. If you're a pro, please feel free to comment with your helpful Farm Town Tips! I've been happily playing a few weeks and am learning new tips and tricks all the time!
How to Join Farm Town
Farm Town is a Facebook application game so you'll need a Facebook account to join. Once you're on your Facebook account, you can search for Farm Town in the search bar and choose the application (you'll see plenty of other options listed. Some are simply fan pages).
You can also play this addictive game by visiting: http://apps.facebook.com/farmtown/play.
Once you're on Farm Town you can see if your Facebook friends are on as well. If they're not, inviting them is easy.
Having friends on Farm Town has perks such as:
- Sending and receiving valuable and profitable gifts
- Being able to hire people to harvest for you (which earns you more coins than if you harvest all your own crops)
- Getting rewards
- Extra ways to make money
- You can chat while farming
Your farm, at first, consists of just a big patch of grass. From there, you can plant things, arrange your gifts (trees, pets, flowers) from others, and design your farm. Things cost money and things earn you Farm Town's currency. You'll also earn Farm Town XP (experience points).
As you do things on your farm and on friends' farms, you'll gain more points which unlocks features within the game. The higher your level, the more things you can buy. Facebook will offer to publish stories in your feed about your achievements in the game and you can also take snapshots of your farm as it grows so you can share progress in your feed. Farms consist of more than just fields of strawberries, potatoes, cabbages, pineapples, blueberries, etc. (Isn't it wonderful you can grow all these things in one place regardless of where you are in the world!?!), they also consist of your yard, your barnyard filled with pigs, sheep, cows, donkeys, etcetera. Oh, and you can have lovely ponds, rivers, bridges, benches, gazebos, and other decorations on your property. You can customize your farm and modify it as you grow.
Here are some helpful Farm Town game tips:
- Spend money on crops before spending on things. Crops earn you money to buy more things
- Be careful about what you're planting and plan around your schedule. Don't plant 4 hour grapes before you leave for your work day (unless you can sneak in on your break), and when you're low on cash, consider planting crops that harvest quickly. There are 4 hour and 1 day crops in the beginning that pay small amounts but as you progress through the game and new vegetables are unlocked, they are worth more. Be aware that they cost more and often take longer, too.
- When you've unlocked raspberries, take the opportunity to plant, harvest and re-plant often so you can level up! Raspberries are ready in just 2 hours!
- When you've earned a fair amount of money, re-invest it by going to the real estate office (in Maps), and upgrading your farm.
- Go to the market place to find help and hire help. Right click on a person to hire them to either plow, harvest, or to private message them.
- Go to the market place to earn fast money. People will share their harvests and plowing jobs with you and this can help you earn quickly. A great way to get noticed in the market place is to stand alone and chat so that incoming farmers can see you.
- Hire others to do your plowing. Once you've got 10 neighbours, you can do this. It results in 15 coins per square cost instead of 20 and also gives you XP (experience points) without your having to do the work.
- Zoom in to see harvests clearer if you're having trouble with a screen filled with comments about the harvests you've already taken in
- Be careful about what you buy! Selling price for items is much lower than buying price. A 70,000 small farm house sells for only 2100 coins!
- Some items (such as hay bales) give you experience points so they can be a good investment.
- Trees are great investments as they're bought once and continue to grow, providing coins every few days. They are expensive though, so get your friends to give gifts of fruit trees to you. You can send one gift to each friend each day.
- Log in each day. Not only will you need to see what harvests are available so they don't go to waste but there's a daily lottery that gives you extra coins.
- Refreshing the screen can solve a lot of problems.
- Water your friends' flowers daily for extra points.
- If you're having trouble seeing crops, click on the toolbar wrench and tell the game to 'hide trees'. You can toggle this game feature off and on.
- Add people to your buddy list that you meet in the market place. This can be helpful if you're disconnected in the middle of a big and profitable harvest
- Visit friends' farms regularly and perform the actions suggested (like watering or raking leaves). This helps you gain coins, trophies, and move up levels.
There are offers you can fill out in the game that will give you extra coins. You can also buy coins if you really want them. These things may seem like a waste of time as you can earn coins within the game but doing this at least once is a good idea. While you may get some spam, you're supporting the game creator and helping them earn revenue so that they can continue to invest in the improvement of the game. - It might not seem necessary for you to buy coins from the 'bank' or fill out the offers to get coins because of all the ways you can earn coins on the game. But, filling out at least one set of offers might not be a bad idea as it can generate revenue for Slashkey, the game developer, so that they can continue to invest in game improvements.

I like Farm town, but it takes too much time to load. Love seeing how many people come and visit. But my farming skills have taken a hike in the last 15 years and I don't get out to harvest as much as I could. Farm Town also freezes my computer and I have to log all the way out. So now I stay away as much as possible..GREAT HUB!
Thanks, Raggits.
I have a laptop that makes Farm Town painful but things aren't too bad on my desktop. I guess it's a memory hog! :)
Once again I am so behind. I haven't logged into my Facebook account in awhile. But this game sounds fun.
It is, Ashley..especially once you start to get harvests in and converse with other farmers :)
keep planting 2 hour crops and coming back and doing it. at the moment i have 448 fields so wen i plant the crops i get 896 xp and wen people plow the fields (after thier harvested) so i get 448 xp on top of that. so thats roughly 1344 xp every 2 hours lucky me lol =P
Has anyone figured out which crop makes the most profit? I know they have spreadsheets out there but they just dont seem that accurate to me. For instance, take cabbage it sells for 107 if you subtract the 45 and the 15 to plow you get a total of 47 per day. (107 - 15 - 45 = 47) But on something that looks more profitable like coffee you sell it for 298 - 15 for plowing and the cost of seeds of 150 and divide it by the number of days to grow 3 you earn 44 per day. (298-15-150=44) Someone show me where I've gone wrong. They aren't calculating at a per day profit. Isn't that the most logical way to do it?
Ginger, Your way sounds to be the most logical for me. I haven't unlocked everything yet. I'm looking forward to responses to your question!
Thanks for posting.
Don't forget that if you hire a neighbor to plow for you, instead of someone from the marketplace, you'll save 50% of the cost to plow instead of the 25%. And you get the experience points either way.
Although, I admit that I don't like to hire people to plow for me now that I have enough neighbors to do the 4-plot-plowing. It's actually faster for me to do my own, so I'm not hovering over the screen to make sure I say "thank you" before they leave. :-)
Oh, good tips, disneyvixen. I didn't know that. Thanks!
Wow, URMom..You're one busy farmer! LOL
yes i have been addicted to this little game aswell, very good hub,
Nice article, i enjoy it when i visit
Go ahead, Write more
Nice hub, charm to read
can anyone tell me why when i plow for someone i just turn the harvested field into grass? I keep getting plow jobs and i just cant do it. I make sure my plow tool is hilighted and not the bulldozer. idk what i am doing wrong

That happens to me on occasion, too TKay. I assume that's when there's a system glitch and I just refresh until it works. You may have to hire / be hired repeatedly to get it to work.
Last night I was working on a lady's farm and she only hired me but 3 people came in and started harvesting so clearly the game does have some glitches to be ironed out!
it happens EVERYTIME i have tried to plow since I started playing. I just wish i could fix it, refreshing doesn't help at all.
sorry to hear it tkay. Maybe visit the Slashkey support forum and post the question?
When you go into the game, you'll see the Forum tab across the top or go to: http://www.slashkey.com/forum/
Good luck!
thank you marleymauve.
good to know it doesn't only happen to me.
I like this game...just haven't had time to use it much on FB. Going to apply all your tips so that I can have the best farm around! Thanks for all the tips.
it amazes me how quickly i went from level 1 to level 17 because of this addiction called farm town!! My hubby thinks I'm a total nerd.
LOL @Torismom. My husband threatened an intervention and last night I got wrist cramps from workin' in the marketplace :)
I stopped playing all games because they can be so addicting... I try my best to stay away from them but now I just started playing Plants Vs. Zombies... its so much fun... =(
I haven't played that, darntoothysam...will have to check it out :)
thanks for sharing this nice story with good thinking......
I've written a post for InfoBarrel on how to "level up" quickly. Check my URL if interested
Ginger,
My sister created a spread sheet with what crops make the most profit by the way you said because she didn't find other spreadsheets helpful either. So far its worked 4 her and me. I've only been playing 4 2 days and i'm already at level 7. Its in order from best to worst. Rasberries's profit is if u do it 4 times a day and grapes 2 times a day.
Crop $/day
1. onions 49.33
2. carrot 49.00
3. rasberry 48.00
4. sunflower 47.33
5. peas 46.00
6. rice 45.00
7. corn 45.00
8. pumpkin 42.67
9. coffe 42.00
10. wheat 40.00
11. cotton 40.00
12. potato 39.00
13. watermelon 37.00
14. tomato 35.00
15. strawberry 35.00
16. grape 32.00
And these r the trees that make the most. DON'T BUY THEM! There is not much profit in that. Give them as gifts and tell your friends to give them to you 2 aswell.
Tree $/day
1. coconut 16.80
2. peach 16.25
3. mango 16.20
4. cherry 15.60
5. plum 15.25
6. banana 14.50
7. orange 14.33
8. pear 13.50
9. apple 12.67
10. lemon 11.33
Hope this is helpful and sorry for any misspelled words.
Thanks so much, Jessica.
Great info!
I have to wonder about the intellectual ability of any one who would need/require a "How To Article" for Farm Town. The game, as well as other similiar games such as Castle Age are all pretty much mindless drivel, a time waster requiring almost no talen or ability to play.
Bud: And those who like to bash those who like to play computer games for sheer entertainment need to have THEIR 'intellectual ability' questioned as well... Most especially their spelling skills!
I wondered if anyone knows how to keep the words above the avatar up longer? I've seen others do it but don't know how
I haven't played it before but I will have to check it out!
@budhasherdashery...
I don't think anyone 'needs' directions or a how-to article but when you hear others are playing the game and want to get right in there and shorten your learning curve, tips could help.
Great hub. looking forward to more from you.
Hi Im from New Zealand and I play Farm Town but have found I spend far too long on it and No time doing Housework or Cooking so have given it a rest for a while
The issue with the plowing happens if you are plowing fields without spaces. You have to go into your preferences and click "remove spaces" to be able to plow those fields.
Hope that helps!
my best friend is an avid farmer on farm town. I'm going to link her to this hub. Thanks for writing.
Thanks, feeweewv, for linking me to this link...i am level 32 with over 3 million coins...hehe...so i have pretty much figured the game out but i do encourage everyone else to keep on playing it gets annoying at times with the server glitches but it is very relaxing and fun to play most of the time! I didnt see anyone mention about removing the spaces between the fields which you can do by clicking on the wrench icon and clicking the remove spaces box but it will not fix fields you already have plowed just any new ones you lay after clicking that box. Also a new trick my and my husband found is on ur own farm hide all the trees and flowers and building and you can lay plowed fields in those areas for extra crops you can turn ur buildings and trees back on it will just show them sitting on them and when it is time to harvest u just hide them again. Also to save yourself frustration when you do hire people to harvest or plow on ur farm...use that time to visit/tend neighbors farms, this way u are not bored sitting there waiting and also in between neighbors u can pop back into your farm to see progress the hired help has made, this also saves on the glitches because if u stay at ur farm and watch you will still see some crops not harvested and some fields not plowed but if u are out tending others farms or even back and forth at the marketplace when you come back u are seeing a refreshed version of your farm. Anyway hope everyone enjoys playing farmtown! if your in my neck of the woods come by and see me at Naynay's farm! Hope to see you soon at the marketplace, I am always hiring harvesters/plowers! Take Care and Happy Farming!
Great tips, naynay! Thanks. And thanks to Feeweewv for pointing her here:)
you are so welcome :)

How much do farm houses cost on farm town?
it happens EVERYTIME i have tried to plow since I started playing.
Kel, the little brown house is $70,000. I think the white house is $300k. I'm not sure about the mansion as I haven't unlocked it yet.
I'm relatively new to Facebook and had never even heard about this game. Sounds like it could eat up a lot of time but for people with time to spare it sounds like it could be fun.
the mansion is 1 million dollars
the mansion is 1 million dollars
I found this very interesting. Thanks very much for helping out .. i still have some issues.. but i believe its my pc..
Thanks again
This is really an interesting post. Just joined Face, have had people after me for forever to get in there, but kept dawdling around...thanks for all this information, Have a great day!

ok TKay go to your preferences aka "wrench" and make sure the box for "Remove Spaces between fields" HAS a checkmark in it & that shall resolve your issue :)
Even if a how-to on a simple game like Farm Town may not be necessary, it is a good way to see a different perspective on how to play the game. Just because your way works, doesn't mean its the best way, and you may not think of other things to try on your own.
I also play Farm Town, but I don't get on FaceBook avidly, so I rely on trees and corn crops to get money. The fruit on trees doesn't decay, and can be harvested any time after it is ready. Same goes for corn, which is the only seed crop I know of that you can leave for up to two weeks (I think that's about the longest between log-ins I've had so far with corn planted) and still be able to harvest when you get on again. I'm only lvl 6, and expect that there are other crops like this available at higher lvls.
Thanks for the hub, it was a good read.
Thanks --- I didn't know that corn didn't go bad! Wonder what else doesn't (beyond trees)
hi im at level 34 but cant seem to get any further,is this the end of farm town
Can anyone tell me why when I am in the marketplace or on a farm working that when I type it doesn't show in the box above me? It only show above my head for like a second then it goes away? Any help fixing this will be GREATLY appreciated!!!!
I just found this by accident, been on Farm Town for a couple of weeks now and I'm already addicted. This is a cool site. Please keep up the good work. lol
I love farm town too, I'm beginning to get addicted with it..I like harvesting & plowing that makes earned more points too.
Interesting Hub!!!
Thanks.
FYI:
If you ever get the dredded green server error, try clicking your coins, I've found it gets rid of the server error and you're able to continue working on the farm you're hired to....
If that doesn't work, you can pretend the message isn't there and continue by scrolling around the darn dredded green check markie!
everybody is playing farm town and it becomes talk of the town, kids and adult are enjoy playing.
Folks are sending me gifts but they never arrive ! nothing is shown in facebook or in my gift box - what has gone wrong ??
Folks are sending me gifts but they never arrive ! nothing is shown in facebook or in my gift box - what has gone wrong ??
You need to retrieve the gifts on your facebook page...there is a link that says farm town gift requests on the far right of your page.....it also enables you to accept neighbor requests...
Also Blueiz, thanks for the tip on the dreaded green server...that doggone thing has bumped me off so many jobs it isn't funny....usually when I am plowing...will try your advice
I am so bad at keeping up my facebook account. Never enough time. Now I have to learn to play games too! :)
I will remember these tips for when I play!
Thank you
It's good to play this games if they inspired you with some ideas on creativity planning....but not to be addicted on it.....it's time consuming.....
We also play this farm town game in other pages in my country. But the tips are the same and useful. Thanks for sharing~
nice articles...!
Farm Town has new stuff!
There is now Farm Cash (which you buy but I wonder if there's a way to earn it in the game)
Some new items have to be bought with Farm Cash (like shaped topiaries) but there are new items available for regular coins as well such as:
pigsty, treehouse, the 'other' category is now called 'Decorations', water fountain, gas grill, garden gnome, picnic set, lemonade stand, etc.
Good move Slash Key! I know several people at level 34 & getting bored so this will help prolong their addiction :)
can anyone tell me why when harvesting for someone i get the GREEN SERVER problem
It says to click to reload but it DOES NOT RELOAD!
Thx guys michel
I'm at level 34 and a few weeks ago there was a premature release for more land, I purchased it and then found it was not there. I got my coins back, but believe this is happening, I hope so! I also found ideas to improve my farm on farmtown fanatic, it showed how to create 3 dimensions including waterfalls, fantastic, happy farming all and drop into g + M acres.
Can you add neighbors without first being friends with them?
My neighbors are sending me gifts but when accept them they are not there when i click on gifts. Where are they? ugh. this is sooooo frustrating. help!!!
There are new halloween Farm Town gifts there as well. I wonder if they'll 'expire' after halloween is over.
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
I keep losing coins when I harvest crops for other farmers. I've lost over half of my money in the last three days. What's up with that?
I love Farmtown, I could quite happily sit for hours playing it!
Wow, Farm Town now has many more levels, crops, and updates. Good that they're trying to hold peoples' interest!
You can now buy a second farm on Farm Town and share crops, storage, XP, etc and transfer items to and fro but a 12x12 farm is 3,000,000 or I think $120coins.
FARM TOWN MASTERY: HOW TO BECOME THE BEST OF THE BEST
by the grayhatter (http://apps.facebook.com/farmtown/?farm_id=1000005
I would like to start this by defining the true purpose of playing
Farm Town. To me the true purpose of playing Farm Town is to make
the most beautiful, eye-catching, farm in the game.
Take for example this farm:
http://apps.facebook.com/farmtown/?farm_id=1000000
This is a farm called "Journeys End, by a player named Aesa.
The main point here is to note Aesa's uswe of a technique called
elevation to make his farm captivating and beautiful. The "elevation"
technique takes certain components of the game and creates the illusion
of "elevated" land and "waterfalls".
Some players on the other hand tend to plow almost every square of land
that they have, thinking that the true npurpose of the game is to make as
much "money" as possible. To me, this perspective seems rather hollow,
and would seem to take all of the fun out of the game. This technique of
plowing "every square" of land can be beneficial in the earlier levels of
the game (up to level 25+-) but once you get past that point,
your main focus should switch to making your farm beautiful. The trick
here is to find a nice median between the two aspects, making money(and lvling up)
as apposed to making a beautiful farm
I hope I have made my point, so moving on. I managed to reach level 26 in
3 days and here's how I did it. These tips are also good for leveling up
to the evn higher levels.
1. BUILDINGS: Buy buildings that give the max experience per coin. For instance, a Farm
House will give you 1,000 xp points but costs 300,000. A Farm House would be
nice to have for aesthetic reasons once you have aquired great wealth, but in the
initial stages it is a huge waste of money. The best building in the game is, hands
down, the silo. Why? Two reasons: Firstly it gives 300 xp points for 30,000 coins.
that's about as high of a ratio as you can find. Secondly, it is VERY SMALL.
This is a HUGE point. You can buy 10 silos for the cost of a Farm House(300,000)
and get 3,000 xp points, as apposed to 1,000 for the Farm House of the same price.
Moreso, the 10 silos will take up roughly the same amount of space as 1 Farm House :)
2. CROP VALUE: Find a good list of the best crops available and follow it to the T. Here is a link
to learn more about this:
http://male.themodernhippy.com/games/farm-town-tip
3. PLOWING: DO NOT PLOW OTHER PEOPLE LAND!!! This is never mentioned but is such an EPIC waste of your time.
You get 1 xp point per plot and 5 coins. In the same amount of time you could harvest someones
pineapple field(the most profitable field to harvest, 124 coins per plot) and make 20,000-100,000
coins. And with these coins you can buy things for your Farm which will give you much more xp than
plowing ever will. So choose to harvest ALWAYS, and never plow. Hravesting yields many more coins
AND experience.
4. THE MARKET: Stand in the middle of the market place and say something quirky and unique. I can't begin to
tell you how many times this technique has gotten me the opportunity to harvest HUGE pineapple field
all by my lonesome. Personally, I tend to say one of the following: "I have my harvesting gloves on :)" or
"I have my pineapple harvesting gloves on" or even more quirky, "Ize gotz me harvestin glurves on :)"
Also, just as important: If you end up going to harvest at someones farm, and they have only grapes,
or raspberries to harvest, it is a waste of your time. Without saying anything, just go back to the market
and look for a different harvesting job. You should also note that everytime you click on the market icon,
(for the most part) it brings you to a different market, so if your not having luck at one market, go
to a different one.
5. LAND EXPANSION: Always expand land as soon as possible (self explanatory)
6. TOOLS: I found it benificial to buy the solar-powered plower, big seeder, and for looks the big harvester.
The solar-powered plower and big seeder will save you time, but the big harvester became pointless after
the option to have people harvest for you came into being.
7. ALWAYS HIRE PEOPLE TO PLOW AND HARVEST: As you should know, you make more money this way.
8. NEIGHBORS: If you don't have many friends that play the game, you may need to find other ways to get neighbors.
I did this by typing in our friends Google, "I need Farm Town Neighbors" and found forums where people were
requesting new neighbors. Keep in mind that you must add people as facebook friends to add them as neighbors.
That's the bulk of what I've learned after playing the game for 3 days. Hope this helps!!!
Forgot to mention one thing. The earn coins tab can be very effective. I would NEVER pay money for farm cash or coins, but some of the offers on there are free and very easy to complete. DO NOT USE THE OFFERS TO GAIN COINS but rather USE THE OFFERS TO GAIN FARM CASH! Farm Cash is hard to come by, and you can buy high experience items with it, and not to mention much more aesthetically pleasing building/items.
Farm Town Tips in the News

Very useful hints - also remember:
You can only water your friends flowers once a day - if they've already watered it - you can not..
If you lag longer than 10 min. and are inactive - the server stops and you have to refresh the page
Don't hang out in the market place and browse open another tab, you may get hired and miss the chance - if you must multi-task you should only chat in msn or some form so you are able to grab the job offer - or else the person offering may give it to someone else.
When you are hired, please remember: you CAN HIDE THE TREES! > Go to the utility (wrench) in the right hand corner of your game and hide your trees! (and do other little features) This will enable you to see the hidden gems below.
Those hiring: Please remember not to hire too many at once! By the time the third person is hired most of your crop is done by the two people before them... consider asking them to PLOW for you as well - it may not be as much value - but it can be done when they are finished harvesting - you can click on them and request the plow right after they've finished the job; this allows you to choose the fastest worker as well to get it done for you!
Plowing: save time when your worker is plowing, you can seed at the same time!
