Fast Food Jobs
81Many people seem to frown on working in the fast food industry, it is considered a below par job that is usually done by school age children because they can't find anything better. It's a shame that people feel that way, because fast food restaurants, whether you agree with the whole concept or not, are helping keep a huge portion of the community gainfully employed. Given the right attitude, a fast food job can be a life time career, and a well paying one at that. People are always going to eat fast food, and this industry is just growing from strength to strength. If you are looking for job security, I would definitely recommend a fast food job.
I'm not sure where the stigma comes from. There seems to be a stereotyped idea of fast food joints being full of young teenagers who get paid pittance and are unhygienic and untrained. From what I've seen, this couldn't be further from the truth, Yes, there are young people being hired in these restaurants, but what is so wrong with that? Would you prefer them to be out on the streets? The fast food industry may be benefiting from not having to pay these kids as much, but they certainly hire their share of adults as well. And as far as hygiene is concerned, this industry is so heavily regulated for health and safety, that I can guarantee you that it's one of the safest places you could eat.
I know of people that have spent decades working in a fast food job, and have loved every moment of it. They say that they are meeting new people every day, and the management of these places works like clockwork. The training that is put into place for each new recruit is very planned and structured. People come out of this training period knowing all the ins and outs of the fast food restaurant business, and they are well equipped to take on the job assigned to them, whether it is cooking in the kitchen or serving up front. Most fast food restaurants provide a rotating roster, so you will not be working behind the counter all the time, you will be given an even amount of time at each section, being tutored and monitored as you go. Once you have tasted all aspects of the varying jobs available, you may then be given the option of choosing which section would be the best for you. In most industries, you are given a job, and that's your lot. There is no room for improvement and no real incentives to perform well.
Fast Food Jobs Are Not Just For Kids
Fast food jobs are not just for kids. In fact, every fast food restaurant has a management team and one or more people handling finances, marketing, customer relations, and many other aspects related to the running of a business. There is plenty of room for growth if you decide to work in this industry. If you are looking at applying for a job at a fast food restaurant, I would recommend that you don't put all your eggs in one basket. Ideally, you should be applying for a job at every fast food restaurant that you possibly can. Keep in mind the distance that the restaurant is away from your home, as if you do get the position you will be commuting on a daily basis. Usually the application process will consist of a questionnaire and an interview with management. Give them good reasons for wanting to work at their establishment. Explain to them that you are looking at this as a long term career prospect rather than a quick way to get some extra quick cash. The management will be much more likely to hire you if they feel that you will be committed to your job. Hiring new employees is a time consuming job for them, and they are much more likely to hire someone who is going to stick around for a while.
If you do get a job at fast food restaurant, try and keep their health and safety regulations in your mind all the time. Many people do not pay enough attention to what is expected of them, and end up losing their job over something silly like lack of hygiene. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you start out. No one is expecting you to know everything, and many managers will be impressed with your initiative if you take the time to ask questions about things you are not sure of. Treat your coworkers and your bosses right, and you will benefit from a long and prosperous career in the fast food industry. Work hard enough and one day you will be the management yourself, and it will be you who is charge of the hiring and firing.

Yup, nothing wrong with working a fast food job. I worked at a vegetarian hamburger joint once in college. Real popular place actually.
I always think of fast food jobs as being for students but I suppose it's no different than a career in any other part of the catering industry. I did plenty of waitressing and bar work for extra cash when I was younger.
It depends on your position. If you are a cook, that is a low paying job. If you are a manager, that is a job. If your the CEO, that is the best job. So where you are in the company matters.

Been there, done that. A job is a job and even a burger joint flipper deserves respect. I applaud anyone with the gumption to work at such places, they deserve recognition.
