Fat Loss and Beverage Selection
64One factor that many people overlook when preparing a fat loss diet for themselves is their beverage selection. While you definitely do likely want to make some changes to your food intake when trying to lose weight, you might just be surprised at how effective it can be for you to simply make a few alterations in your beverage selection as well.
The big issue with beverages is that many people do not account for the calories consumed, therefore they don't reduce their food intake when their drink intake goes up.
Since many drinks can pack a huge calorie punch, this often leads to weight gain or at the very least, problems losing weight.
That said, here are the big beverages to watch out for.
Flavored Coffee
One drink that you'll really want to watch is flavored coffees. While a regular coffee with a shot of sugar free syrup is perfectly fine, it's when you start moving into all those fancy coffee drinks out there that you run into more problems.
Anything that has added whip cream, cream, or sugar is going to be very high calories and potentially fat as well, setting you back on your diet.
Juice
While juice seems like a healthy selection due to the fact it's ‘natural', there are some things to watch out for. First, realize that many juices out there actually aren't natural; they are simply sugar with fruit flavoring.
This isn't going to provide any nutrition and could cause a big weight gain for you.
Secondly, even if the juice is pure fruit juice, it still lacks the fiber that you'd get from eating a regular piece of fruit, and is much more calorie dense.
For example, to equate to the same calories as one cup of orange juice, you'd have to eat three oranges.
Not exactly a good trade-off as far as fat loss is concerned.
Alcohol
Alcohol is another big one to watch out for. Alcohol is not going to be processed in the body in the same manner as if you would have taken calories in from carbs, protein, or fat, therefore it's something you also want to avoid.
While a drink every now and then is okay, drinking too much too often is definitely going to cause a hindrance as far as fat loss is concerned.
Fruit Smoothies
Like juice, fruit smoothies may seem healthy, but often, for the person looking to lose weight, they're anything but.
Fruit smoothies are often made of a combination of fruit, milk, yogurt, ice cream, sorbet, and fruit flavored syrups.
Because there are so many ingredients blended up into the beverage, this makes it very high in calories. While you definitely do often get a lot of liquid with the smoothie, you also rack up a very high number of calories - up to 1000 in some cases.
So, your best bet is to just avoid them.
When trying to lose weight, it's smart to keep your beverage selection limited to water, sugar-free coffee and teas, diet sodas, and milk (possibly with protein powder).
This will help keep calories lower and be sure you're not drinking your calories away.
