Losing weight can save your life especially if you have high blood pressure, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Despite all the ads and programs you see about weight control, more than 90% of people who have been on a diet program regain the weight they have lost within one year. If you look at the current health statistics you'll notice that some of the major reasons people are obese include eating too much, eating the wrong types of food and being sedentary. After many years of trying all sorts of things including crash diets and pills some people have finally come to learn the truth:

- There are no miracle weight loss pills that will produce lasting results on their own.

- Surgery is expensive and only gets rid of the fat, not the dimpled skin.

- Things like massages, patches and wraps don't work either.

- Crash diet weight loss programs can actually do harm to your body and your health.

- The best way to get rid of excess fat and lose weight is with a low-fat, reduced calorie diet plus regular exercise where you lose about 1 to 2 pounds a week.


Study after study has shown that people who are obese and overweight carry increased health risks. They are more likely to suffer from hypertension, heart disease, gallbladder disease, diabetes and cancer than people who have normal weight. They also tend to have shorter life spans.

Instead of checking the scale everyday to see if you have lost weight, start on a healthy weight loss program and patiently follow it through until you start seeing good results. You don't even have to check your weight regularly, if you do it right  the eventual rewards will be solid and lasting. Healthy eating and exercise are the wise way to lose weight and keep it off. Some diet programs have recognised this and have incorporated it into their weight control plan. If you're considering starting on a weight control program, remember to speak with your doctor about your health so that he or she can give you the go-ahead and probably suggest some healthy diet plans or programs.
