The story of Samson and Delilah is a well known story that nearly everyone knows about. You can ask people on the street if they know about them and most will say yes. They know many details of what happened between them. What happened to Samson was that he had a fatal attraction to Delilah. He desired her so much that he was willing to give up anything to have her.

Jdg 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

Samson went to a harlot and, even though he sinned when he went to her, he was not desirous of her like he was with Delilah. Delilah was the women he loved more than anything in the world.

Jdg 16:4 And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
Jdg 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
Jdg 16:6 And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

Delilah knew she had Samson where she wanted him. The Philistines offered her a lot of money to find out how to bind Samson and she accepted their offer. We should note that Samson must not have been a really big man with big bulging muscles as men think of today. There was something about him that they desired to know that was different than the normal run of the mill strong man. He may have looked like a 90 pound weakling for all we know. Yet there was something about him that attracted the Philistines.

Jdg 16:16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;
Jdg 16:17 That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

Once Delilah vexed Samson's soul to death, he finally told her the truth. This is how Satan is with us today. He will vex our souls to death until we tell him our secrets. When we bare our heart to the wrong person it only causes us more trouble and can kill us spiritually. It can kill our testimony and our walk with the Lord.

I ask you this now, "What or who is your Delilah?" Each of us have evil inside of us. None of us are perfect and are subject to fall. God has given us power to overcome the enemy, but yet there are certain things we are attracted to that can be fatal to us, but not only us, but also to our families, and others close to us.

Jos 7:20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
Jos 7:25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? the LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

Achan saw gold and silver when Jericho was defeated and took some for himself because he coveted them. This is the reason Israel ran from Ai. Sin was in the camp. Not only was Achan destroyed because of his fatal attraction, but his family and all his belongings were likewise destroyed. Not only are we affected by our attractions, but also those we love and hold dear to our hearts. I would hate to think that my son and wife would be destroyed because of something I was attracted to.

The last I read, the divorce rate in the US is 51%. We can see how many families are destroyed because of a fatal attraction of some sort. Many times it is another woman or another man but it could be many different things. Cars, wealth, boats, drugs, alcohol to name just a few. I ask again, "What is your fatal attraction?"

King David saw another man's wife taking a bath one morning and he was attracted to her. Uriah was one of his most trusted soldiers and would do nothing to bring a reproach upon the King of Israel. He walked upright and did what was required of him. Because of David's attraction to Bathsheba, Uriah had to die along with one of David's sons. David's attraction was not fatal to him, but fatal to others.

One thing Satan cannot give us is the desire to have something. When we sin, we are drawn away by our own lusts and desires. Satan does know enough about you to know what you desire and what can cause you to be fatally attracted to something.

Earlier I stated that there is evil inside each of us. This evilness is what causes us to desire things that will kill us. When Jesus was teaching the disciples to pray, one line in that prayer is, "deliver us from evil." This shows that we are evil inside and there is no good in us. Until we come to Jesus and are changed by His power and covered in His blood, we will remain the same. Jesus said you cannot put new wine into old bottles because the old bottles will burst. New wine must be put into new bottles because the new bottles are strong while the old ones are weak. When we come to Jesus and He changes us, it is then we receive the new wine (Holy Ghost) into the new vessel He made us into. We then have the power to resist the enemy and all the fatal attractions that may come our way.

Satan certainly would love to be able to destroy all of us, but God does not allow it to happen. We must remain diligent in prayer to God and in watching for the devices that Satan throws our way. Be careful of our fatal attractions not only for our own sake, but for the sake of our loved ones. I know what my fatal attraction is, do you know yours?
