Casey Emerson's Favorite Books

I've been an avid reader for most of my life and can never seem to get enough. Sometimes I read to get educated, other times I read to gain some introspection, and other times just to laugh. Here's an eclectic view into my personal library.

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

This is definitely one of my favorites. A clear, easy to understand guide to self-improvment, goal achievement and real life tips for creating the life you want.

How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

I didn't read this book for years because I thought the basis of the book was about manipulating people. So imagine my surprise when I found out this is a very genuine guide to creating great personal and professional relationships by understanding human nature. Very insightful.

I Used to Miss Him...But My Aim Is Improving: Not Your Ordinary Breakup Survival Guide by Alison James

Hilarious look at sweet revenge after a breakup. While I think the author might have seriously done some of the things she talks about in the book, I think it's meant more for fun....I hope!

Don't Give it Away by Iyanla Vanzant

I've had this gem of a book since my early 20s. It's a workbook filled with exercises and affirmations to build the self-esteem. Great book for young women.

The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory

I don't read a lot of fiction, but this author is awesome! She writes fictional stories surrounding Henry and the Tudors. They made a movie based on this book last year, but the book was much better.

One more great little book -

We have somewhat similar tastes. Dale Carnegie's book and The Other Boleyn Girl are two are my favorites as well. I gained a whole new appreciation of friendship from Carnegie was completely shocked and enthralled by the Other Boleyn Girl. My only regret is that I haven't seen the movie yet :(

I'll be sure to check out The Success Principles - it sounds really interesting.

Thanks for answering this post!

That's cool : )

Totally agree on the Dale Carnegie book...

Unfortunately the movie was not as good as the book : ( I watched the whole movie thinking how I could haven't written a better script. Pretty arrogant of me since I've never written a script!

The Success Principles is a fab book!

The movie's in my Netflix queue, so I'm still gonna watch it. I usually expect great things from Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johannsen, but now I know my expectations should be slightly lower from your review.

Someone once said that you know you're a writer when you read somebody else's work and think, "I could have done better than that!" You're definitely a writer.

Thanks so much for your compliment : ) I agree with you, the actors are amazing and I hold them in very high regard. Would love to hear your thoughts once you've seen the movie - I don't want to cloud your experience with my critiques ; )

Thanks for the tip on the book too!

I agree wit you Casey, I loved the book, but found the movie mediocre. I haven't read anything esle by the author, but I will look around. Some other great ones: The Corrections, White Oleander, Virgin Suicides. I'm an avid reader so I could go on forever, thanks for the post:)
