Favorite Vacation Destination

Different strokes for different folks. What's a fun day out may be absolutely boring for you. But for whatever its worth, here goes. Question was - What's your favorite vacation destination? There's one thing I really enjoy - Good food. The kind of food I love you won't find in a snooty restaurant that has waiters with French accents. The kind I love is where everything is floating gravy, and you can wipe the plate off and nobody will give you a second look.

And there's no place better for foodies than New York City. Follow me on a gastronomic tour of new York City.

Corner Bistro: The Bistro Burger is undoubtedly New York's best contribution to mankind. Open 24 hours, there's nothing that even remotely compares to the absolute satisfaction you get from sinking your fangs into the mish-mash of bacon and cheese, and feel the cheese melt in your mouth and mix in with the taste of the bacon. Wash it down with a cheap beer, and you'll feel a wave of satisfaction flow through yourself. Do it late in the night, when the crowds are gone, and its just the regulars, and it'll be even better. M & G Diner, Harlem: Brooklyn has the most options for people like me, but Harlem is the place for soul food. The M & G's fried chicken with a thick crust is as good as it tastes in Memphis, and the jukebox belting out jazz and R&B helps you relax and just be yourself. Help yourself to a plateful of short-rib sandwiches if you want to stay for some time, and get aquainted with what passes for small talk in Harlem. Info: 383 W. 125th St., New York, NY 10027; (212) 864-7326

Nathan's Famous, Coney Island: This is the place where it all started. Nathan's Famous hot dogs are now a brand name which is peddling a lot of stuff, but the chilli dogs at the original outlet in Coney Island are still the best. Heck, they hold an annual hot dog competition, where people wolf down hundreds of dogs, buns and all. Just to take a look at a plate full of hot dogs, heaped high, and the wonderful smell.. http://www.nathansfamous.com/

Anchor Bar, Buffalo, NY: I know this falls outside NYC, but this is the one place I would happily travel to. Because this is where the famed 'Buffalo Chicken Wings' first came into existence. I don't say they still serve the best, but the history of the palce some how makes it seem better. Besides, they also whip up some excellent stuffed hot peppers, served with bread and stuffed with Italian sausage, cream cheese and romano cheese. Dessert at the Anchor Bar isn't too shabby either. Check out one of their cheesecakes. Info: 1047 Main Street Buffalo, New York 14209; (716) 884-4083

So many more I'd like to write about, like the new Momofuku-Ko from Chef David Chang, which is really hot and hard to get in, and Ago, the new restaurant in Robert DeNiro's brand-new hotel Greenwich in Tribeca. Speaking of Tribeca and DeNiro, you can't help but mention Nobu. That palce has a lot of history. And speaking of historic diners, there's Katz's Deli, which, along with pastrami sandwiches, has more history and a New Yorkish atmosphere, if there is such a thing, than most any other place or diner in the City.

So you see, if you keep talking like this, you can probably connect all the restaurants in NYC in one way or the other, and I could be here all night long. So I guess I have to stop it here. Point being that if you want to take an eating tour around New York, you now have a pretty fair idea of where you want to start with.
