Feeling A True Sense Of Home Security
64Summary
Home security broken into its base words are home, being a dwelling place that is filled with personal items and memories that transform a house into a home and security meaning safe and impenetrable. When people install home security systems in their houses they are protecting themselves from burglary, and fire, while having access to medical emergency response teams to fully protect their family and belongings from the forces of unwanted elements or intruders into their domain.
Feeling A True Sense Of Home Security
Home Security, those two words bring to mind the alarm systems with bells and whistles that provide burglary and theft protection to many households. But if you take the two words home and security they have a deeper meaning of a secure and safe living environment. Safety and security bring peace of mind to people that know they are in good hands. Being safe means that no harm will come to you while being secure is a simile of safety and implies that when something is secure it is protected and impregnable.
A house is where someone lives, but a home is far more than a house, home is where a happy memories of family are created, where a person is nurtured and where their personal belongings transform a house into something more than four walls and roof. A home implies that love exists inside the house where children and parents form a family bond and live together in a spirit of harmony and peace.
Therefore, home security would imply that a family living in a home that they find safe and comfortable in is protected from outside forces. The elements of weather, unwanted intruders and accidental happenstance are all expelled from the mind as the residents of a house that is safe and sound that falls under the protection of home security. Just like a blanket that covers the whole house and keeps it snugly wrapped up in safety, a home security system provides a family with a barrier of protection against a number of unwanted elements.
Starting with the basic foundation of home security, the burglar alarm a house is wired with electronic sensors to pick up small variances in movement within the home. Alarm sensors come in many different forms and are often combined into a network of sensors all reporting the condition of the house to a central alarm panel with a keypad that can enable or disable each sensor individually or all of the sensors simultaneously.
Starting with the entrances to the house the exterior doors are equipped with small magnetic sensors that are recessed into the frame and door itself. When the sensor is activated an electromagnetic field is created between to the two receivers of the sensor as the door is closed. Once the door opens the electromagnetic connection is broken and the broken circuit triggers the alarm siren to go off, alerting the authorities to any intruder that may be breaking into the house through an exterior door. As a high percentage of burglars penetrate the houses of their prey through a doorway, alarm sensors placed on each entryway into and out of the house make up the basics of a burglar alarm system.
To protect the windows of a house glass break sensors placed in direct line of site of windows provide a dual sensor system for protecting large windows and whole rooms of windows with the use of a single sensor. The glass break sensor works by means of two different sensors to working in tandem to pick up the specific sound frequency and vibration that glass shatters at, so in the event of some breaking a window the sensor with be armed and ready to transmit the location of an intruder that attempts to break into a home through a window.
In addition to glass break sensors, motion detectors round out the burglar alarm portion of a home security system by picking up the movements of any inside the house when the alarm is active. Picking up both a persons body heat and movement thermal motion detectors sense people and not draperies or car headlights that cast shadows or are moved by fans and air currents, thus reducing the amount of false alarms and reporting only movement of people inside the home. These sensors are typically placed in hallways or large open living rooms where window sensors are not required. With a 25 foot range and a 90 degree angle line of site the thermal motion detector can cover a large area with a relatively small sensor.
The combination of the three types of sensors, door sensors, glass break sensors and motion detectors make up just one piece of the monitoring and reporting equipment of a home security system. There are two additional elements to consider when installing a home security system and those two pieces of equipment cover the fire safety and emergency services response to events happening inside the house.
Every house is required to have a fire alarm inside and the typical fire alarms work by sensing ionic changes in the atmosphere near the sensor. By burning toast or overcooking a meal the alarm will trigger and cause a very annoying sound to blare throughout the house. With a home security system the fire protection is provided by smoke detectors that also work on a dual system. Testing the air around the smoke detector for carbon emissions rather than ion particles the smoke detector can tell the difference between burning toast and burning furniture and walls. Additionally the smoke detector has a heat sensor build into the unit that will trigger the alarm once the temperature inside the house reaches 120 degrees or there is an increase in temperature of five degrees within a two minute timeframe between each measured sensing. Once the smoke detector confirms the high heat and thick carbon smoke it will not only set off the alarm to warn the inhabitants of the house to evacuate, it will also send a signal to the keypad control panel to alert the fire department and send help immediately.
The third and final element of an ADT home security system is the ability of the keypad control panel to send out an emergency signal notifying paramedics of a medical related emergency within the house. With dialing 911 the ability to call for an ambulance during a family crisis reduces the amount of time it takes for help to arrive in a medical emergency.
With the full capability of the burglar, fire and emergence response alarms built into a single unit a family can feel the safety and reassuring peace of mind that truly gives them a greater sense of their home being secure and safe. Home security envelops the full spectrum of protection for families and provides them with the coverage that they need to feel safe and sound at home.
