Ask Susan Peters Cat Food Review:

Felidae Cat and Kitten Formula Cat Food uses a lot of yeast which makes me uncomfortable about the source of the yeast. I like the use of Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, and Lamb meal in Felidae Cat and Kitten Formula Cat Food. I don't care for the use of "natural flavors". What are these natural flavors of and where did the flavors come from?

This was the first "healthy" food we gave to our cats several years ago when we switched them over from Cat Chow. They didn't like it very much and it took a while to get them to eat it. Within a month or so I noticed they didn't seem to have as much energy as before. Within 2 months they starting losing weight. They need to trim down a bit so at first I was pleased. Then one day I noticed a lot of hanging skin from their abdomens and I even started seeing the bones in their ribs beneath their skin as they walked. They were too thin despite feeding them the suggested amount each day. It was obvious they weren't thriving and I switched to EVO. Their energy level incresed to normal and they gained weight and looked normal again.

I am not sure what caused the problem with this food but I never gave it to my cats again. They have done well on EVO and California Natural but since they have a few minus points I am not researching better choices.

Ann,

Thank you for the information on the Felidae. I quit feeding commercial pet foods so I don't always have a personal experience with some of the brands. How long ago did you conclude feeding this product?

Susan
